Is there a way to create a link between my laptop and PS3 without a wireless router for the purpose of streaming and internet (Bell Canada is gay and if there is a way to get their internet to work with my ps3, then please, tell me how to do that… they say I have to use a wireless router, a direct link from modem to ps3 wont work, and I’ve tried it) please help… I need my internet back on my PS3.
The best way to network a ps3 with your laptop is with a router, you don’t need a wireless router you could use a non wireless router and connect it directly to the PS3 via Ethernet cable but you said you wanted to connect to the PS3 directly to your laptop. Some people have had success with connecting their laptop to get the Ps3 online but it’s all trial and error and takes a bit of tinkering to get the setting right.
What you need is a “Crossover Ethernet cable”, you would plug this into the laptop and the PS3 this will bridge the two devices. Then you need to head over to your Windows machine and allow “internet sharing” in the Network Settings. You may also need to configure the network settings on the PS3. If that doesn’t work try using Windows XP Internet Connection Wizard. Basically let the wizard know that you want to connect other computers with your laptop wireless card. There’s a good description here on how to network the PS2 with a laptop and it should work for the PS3 as well http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/118/62/.
Another possible way to connect the PS3 to your laptop is getting a usb Ethernet adapter, you will also need a built in wireless card in the laptop which I will assume you do. Plug the usb Ethernet adapter to the PS3 and configure your Windows machine to allow “internet sharing”.

there is a way to connect the internet using a ps3 and laptop. I used the ethernet cable that came with my ps3 connected in to my laptop, but for this to work you have to have file sharing and network discovery on in your laptop. If your using vista go to network and sharing center what ever network your using to connect to the internet on your laptop click view status.
A box will appear click properties than click the last tab there will be a check box for allow other users to connect through this computers internet connection. Check the box and than disconnct from the internet and reconnect than with your ps3 connected to the laptop. Now with your ps3 set up a connection instead of wireless use wired connection and make everything automatic and such and it should work like it did for me.
