“I’d like to see what kind of files are on my computer at a glance. How do I show file extensions in Windows 10?”
By default Windows 10 does not show file extensions for files inside your folders. This kinda sucks because you can’t tell if you’re opening a PDF file, video file, or a .exe file. Turn on visible file extensions with a few simple steps.
1. Let’s get started by opening up File Explorer on your Windows 10 machine. Do that by clicking on the ‘Start’ menu icon and selecting ‘File Explorer’ from the menu. Or by doing a quick search for ‘File Explorer’.
2. Inside the File Explorer window go to the upper left side of the window and click on ‘View’.
3. With the View tab open find ‘File name extensions’ and click on the box beside it to leave a check mark.
4. Now you should be able to see file extensions on our Windows 10. We can quickly test this out by opening a few folders with files inside. File extensions should now be visible at the end of each file.
