“Since I’ve updated to Windows 10 on my laptop my two-finger scrolling is reversed from the direction that I’m used to. I like to have web pages scroll downwards when I drag my two fingers down and vice versa. How do I change my touchpad scrolling directions on my Windows 10 laptop?”
How to Change Scrolling Direction on Windows 10:
1. Go to the ‘Mouse and Touchpad’ settings. The quickest way to get there is by typing ‘Mouse’ into the search function from your taskbar. Or right-click the Start button and select ‘Search’ from the menu list.
2. Now we’re in the Mouse & touchpad settings. We have a few options here but we’ll need to dig a bit deeper to change the scrolling direction. Go down to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Additional mouse options’.
3. The ‘Mouse Properties’ should appear. Select on the ‘Device Settings’ tab. When I first installed Windows 10 on this Dell laptop I did not have the Device Settings tab. I had to download the ‘mouse/keyboard/input’ driver from Dell’s website. You may need to do the same for your brand of computer. After I installed the driver the Device Settings tab automagically appeared.
4. From the Device Settings tab click on ‘Settings’.
5. Now click on ‘Scrolling’ from the menu on the left. Find the ‘Enable reverse scrolling’ section and change it to your liking. You have many options here, take a look around and adjust everything to your personal preference. Click ‘Apply’ to save changes.

I give this a million thumbs up!! I have been searching for a solution to this problem, and this is what worked for me. Though it is not exact to Windows 10, the instructions were clear enough to provide me with enough insight into my problem to navigate the menus in order to achieve my desired scrolling direction.

I agree with Amy, I have tried the above with the new settings and it doesn’t work.

Right clicking on the start menu doesn’t go to the control panel as of the final release. To get to the Mouse Properties, open the control panel via the start menu, or by right clicking on the start button and search for “mouse” in the search box.

After the latest update for Windows 10, my touchpad my scrolling was reset and the device is not listed in the place listed to change the settings.
The device is listed as working properly. Do I need to reinstall the driver (again)?

Thank you!!! For mine I had to go into multifinger gestures then two-finger scrolling to find this setting, regular Scrolling setting was for one finger scrolling. I’m so glad there’s a way to change it back to normal!.I’m sure I could get used to reverse scrolling, but I’d rather not.

Am I the only one to whom the change of setting doesn’t remain after restarting the PC? I have to change it each time I restart my PC

Me too. Every time I restart, wheel is inverted again. Certainly annoying.

For Windows 10, instead of clicking on “Scrolling”, click on “MultiFinger Gestures”, then on “Two-Finger Scrolling” (at least on my mouse software). There’s a little “Setting icon” that appears on the same line. Click that and the “Enable reverse scrolling direction” option comes up in a separate window. If it’s selected, deselect it and save. If it’s not selected, select it and save. Hope this helps.

After clicking “additional mouse options” I do not see a devise settings tab. Only buttons, pointers, pointer options, wheel, and hardware?

I also do not have a device settings tab. Only buttons, pointers, pointer options, and hardware. When I updated my scroll settings disappeared completely and now won’t scroll single, double, or any fingered gesture; and yes, I’ve tried every position on the touchpad. Can someone please help? Did this just not install correctly when I upgraded to 10? The installation went perfectly smoothly and everything else is working properly, so far.

Agree with other comments here. The search did not take me to mouse settings – it is rather lame, not wanting to search the device but wanting to go online at every turn! Found my way through settings and menus to where I could turn off this unnatural scroll direction! Why was it made the default when the world has been following scroll bar direction since the inception of Windows!!!!

Anyone? Dell XPS 13 (late), came with Windows. 10. Updated Windows and added the enhancement pack. Still no way to adjust trackpad. I’m with Jessica on this. Trackpad is funky, hoping that reverse scroll will at least get everything moving in the same direction. Please point to hard links/screenshots. Thank you

For those wondering about changing the scroll direction for Asus computers, go to: https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1016031.
Nothing needs to be installed/uninstalled–it’s simply a matter of checking/unchecking a box in an area that one would assume would be under settings.

I just spent the better part of an hour trying to find this setting on my ASUS, until I came across this response. Thanks, Kayla! Why I can’t get here from “Settings”, from apps, from “Display”, or from anywhere else, I’ll never understand.

Thanks for documenting this process. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad so needed to do another additional step via the Advanced options tab. Same successful result!

Found on another site —- Fixed the problem for Asus —- Thought that I would share.
I FINALLY figured it out! On my Asus machine, at least. Go to Control Panel, like Browning IT said, but instead of clicking on the “Mouse” option, click on “Asus Smart Gesture” instead. Under the Two Finger Column, check the box next to “Content moves reversely with your finger’s direction.” I hope this applies to your model. I have a Flip. That took me 2 days to figure out!

NO MATTER how many times I click “enable scrolling direction” it doesn’t work!!1
I don’t want to sweep up with the touchpad, I want it to be like I’ve always known….
you scroll downwards on the touchpad, and the screen goes up not down! argh I’ve
googled for days about this, and nothing works.
