“What happens to my Facebook account after I die? Is there a way to designate someone to control my account?”
Facebook has recently added a new feature that allows users to select a “Legacy Contact”. This new setting will give that designated person the power to do a variety of things such as writing something to be displayed on the memorialised timeline, responding to new friend requests, and updating cover/profile picture.
- Log into your Facebook account and select ‘Settings’
- Select ‘Security’
- Select ‘Legacy Contact’
- After entering your legacy contact, a message can be sent to that contact
- Now you’ll choose what your Legacy Contact can do, such as updating your profile picture, posting on your Timeline, respond to new Friend Requests and deleting your account. You can also allow your Legacy contact to download a copy of things you’ve shared on Facebook such as pictures, posts and videos
