“Is there a Start menu in Windows 8? I can’t find it anywhere.”
Microsoft has given up on the Start menu and hope users can do the same with Windows 8. Instead of a Start menu you’ll get the Start screen.
The Start screen allows you to pin contacts, applications and even your favorite web sites for quick and easy access.
To access the Start screen: Mouse over to top-right corner of the monitor and click on the ‘Start’ charm. If you are using a touchscreen, swipe inwards from the right side edge of the screen and tap on the ‘Start’ charm.
If you mainly used the Start menu to quickly search for stuff on your computer you can still do it in Windows 8 without the Start menu.
Press the ‘Windows’ key (the key with a Windows logo) on your keyboard or device and start typing the name of the application, file or document and hit ‘Enter’.
To quickly access the Windows 8 search box press the Windows Key + F at the same time. Windows 8 will bring back a list of results which is ranked by most frequently used (MFU as its called).
