“What’s a Netbook and is it better than a regular laptop?”
Netbooks are huge right now and they’re selling like hotcakes. But what exactly is a Netbook and why should you buy one instead of a regular laptop?
Main Netbook features or drawbacks:
They cheap – most netbooks are anywhere between $300 and $500 where as regular laptops are $500 and up.
Smaller Screens – netbook monitor sizes are usually between 8 to 12 inches.
Smaller keyboards – netbooks don’t have full size keyboards and some are smaller than others.
Small form factor – netbooks are smaller in size and light than most regular laptops.
Runs Windows XP – most netbooks will have Windows XP installed because Vista needs way too much power to run efficiently on these smaller devices. Windows 7 will replace XP when it releases this fall. Some netbooks will have some form of Linux OS installed.
Underpowered – netbooks are good for basic computing and that’s it. Browsing the web, emails, watching videos,, playing music, some office apps will run pretty good in most netbooks. Don’t expect to run Photoshop, or edit videos on a netbook.
No CD or DVD drive – I don’t remember seeing any with CD/DVD drive.
Flash based hard drives – many netbooks come with flash based hard drives and the storage size is way smaller than a regular laptop drive. Some do come with the regular spinning drives as well which offers more storage.
