What does the Wii stand for?
Before the Wii (We) came out it was code named “Revolution” and many people hated that Nintendo changed the name to “Wii”. Nintendo wanted a shorter and a easier to pronounced name so that anyone around the world would be able to say it without difficulty.
So why such a silly name like “Wii”? Wii is spelt with two lower case i which is suppose to represent two people standing together side by side. It can also be seen as the Wii controllers, the Wii-mote and Nunchuk.
Here’s a good reason why Nintendo said it chose the name:
Wii sounds like ‘we’, which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
At first I thought the name was kinda silly but it really does fit the whole image that Nintendo is going for which is family oriented fun.

XBox and PlayStation players ridiculed the name “Wii”. But judging from the sales figures, look who’s laughing now.
