I sometimes come across the terms “overclocking” and “clocked at” when reading about computers. What does it mean to overclock a computer, please explain in plain English cause I’m not very tech savvy.
The term clocking refers to the cycle speed of the processor also known as the CPU. The standard for measuring CPU cycles are Hertz ( Hz). You may be familiar with the GHz or MHz. In most cases the higher your clock speed the faster your CPU will be but this is not always the case other factors also can affect your CPU speed like the size of your L2 cache.
Overclocking means running the processor at higher speeds and changing the stock settings to achieve greater performance. You can do this by going into your computer’s BIOS and tweaking some settings like the bus speed, voltage etc. There are risks when overclocking your computer if you don’t know what you’re doing it could cause instability, errors, and hardware failure. Do so at your own risk.
