Ftp stands for “File transfer protocol” it’s main use is transferring files from one computer to another over the internet or over a network. So we know what ftp stands for, what’s the big deal over ftp. Well ftp has a lot of positives such as transferring data files reliably, allows file sharing, and accessing a computer/server remotely.
I will give you an example of how I use ftp. I have a hosting company that hosts my website on their servers, so in order for me to gain access to their servers and access my website files I need to log in using an ftp program and use my id and password to get in and upload or download files from that server using ftp.
Hope that gives you a good idea of what ftp can do, if you want more info on ftp, Wikipedia has some good info.
