I’m thinking about buying a new computer. The place I’m buying my computer at will allow me to choose Windows XP or WIndows Vista. Which Windows is better XP or Vista?
If you are buying a new computer than definitely buy it with Vista. Why would you buy a new computer with an old operating system? XP is an old operating system and Microsoft will eventually stop supporting it. Vista has been out for a year now so it’s a pretty solid operating system and with Service Pack 1 out it has been very stable. It’s more secure than XP and it looks much more like a modern operating system. Once I started using Vista, XP really started to look outdated and boring.
I would only recommend Vista on new machines because the newer hardware will work with Vista. I would not recommend “upgrading” an old machine from XP to Vista. If you have an older machine running Windows XP than just stick with that instead. Vista usually has a tougher time with older hardware so skip the upgrade until you’re ready for a new machine. Vista requires more ram than an XP machine, experts recommend at least 2 gigs of ram for Vista to run smoothly but I’ve use 1 gig without any problems.
If there is a program you always use on XP it’s a good idea to see if it will work on Vista. You can do that by going the the software company website. Most of the bigger companies will have already updated their software to be Vista compatible but older or more obscure programs may not run on Vista. That may be a good reason to stick with XP.
