Hello. I would like to uninstall Ubuntu and install Windows Vista Home OEM version on my PC. Normally, when I have installed Windows in the past it automatically booted from the CD. When I put the Windows CD in the CD-ROM drive (which is set to run before the HD), Ubuntu loads anyways. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?
First things first I know you probably already did this but I need to get it out there anyways. Go into the computer’s BIOS (usually by tapping the Delete key during reboot) and make sure the CD Drive is the very first thing that boots which looks like you did. Some BIOS will let you disable other devices from booting. Try disabling everything from booting except the CD-Drive.
The CD may not be bootable – the condition of the CD may be the cause give it a good wipe with a soft cloth. Try and see if the Ubuntu Cd will boot from the drive.
When booting off the Windows CD it will prompt you to press any key to continue so be sure to do that.
Jumper cables may not be set properly. Have you switched any wires lately?
How old is the CD-Drive? Drive may not be working properly and therefore may not be able to read the disc. CD/DVD drives are pretty cheap nowadays and many people who had problems similar to this ended up buying a new drive and things worked properly afterwards.

Since you made sure that the BIOS was set to boot directly from CD, It could possibly be a problem with the Windows install disk. Try booting off your Ubuntu disk to test it. Another thing is to make sure that it isn’t a plain cd-rom drive but one that can also read DVDs because I believe the Vista disk is a DVD and not a normal CD.
