Ubuntu Hardy Heron was officially released a few days ago and I just finished the painless installation without any troubles. With the latest Ubuntu installed on my local machine the next thing I had to do was set up all the pretty little eye candy to make all the Vista and Mac users jealous.
I’m using ATI Radeon1650 Pro graphics card so these steps may or may not work with your set-up.
First thing I did was get the latest updates. So open up your Terminal and put in the following code:
sudo apt-get update
Next thing I did was install Compiz Settings Manager with this code:
sudo aptitude install compizconfig-settings-manager
The last thing I did to get Compiz working was getting my restricted driver enabled and I did that by going to System > Admin > Hardware Drivers> Check the driver to download.
To configure the desktop effects go to System > Preferences > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings
Check out my Ubuntu desktop video with “Advanced Desktop Effects” installed. The water effects and the desktop cube are my personal favorites.
