“I’m kind of new to the Mac computers, only been using it for about a month. On Windows there’s a handy little built in program called the task manager. Is there a task manager on the Mac?”
Yes the Mac does have a task manager software built into the operating system but on the Mac they call it the ‘Activity Monitor’.
How to open Task Manager on Mac:
1. Click on your Finder Icon.
2. Select ‘Applications’ from the left side menu.
3. Find the ‘Utilities’ folder and click it to open it up.
4. Look the application called the ‘Activity Monitor’ and click on it.
Note: A quicker way to get there is by using the ‘Spotlight’ search and typing in ‘Activity Monitor’.
The Activity Monitor is Apple’s version of Window’s task manager. You can view all programs running on the system and other details such as CPU and Memory usage for each program.
If you find a particular program using a lot of memory or CPU and bogging down your Mac computer you can kill it using this ‘task manager‘.
To kill an application simply click on it to highlight it and click on the ‘X’ located at the upper left corner of the window. This will stop the program from running in the background using up your memory or CPU.
