How do I stop Windows 10 from automatically compressing all my files?
Windows will automatically start compressing your files when your computer runs low on disc space.
This method is for Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise users.
- Go to the Search function on your task bar. Begin typing in ‘gpedit.msc’.
- This will open up the ‘Local Group Policy Editor’. From here click on Computer Configuration ->Administrative Templates ->System ->Filesystem ->NTFS.
- Now select Do not allow compression on all NTFS volumes.
- By default it’s on ‘Not Configured’, change it to ‘Enabled’ and hit the ‘Okay’ button to confirm.
- Now Restart your computer. This should disable Windows 10 from automatically compressing files.
