“Sometimes when I plug my PS4 controller using the USB cable the controller light doesn’t come on to indicate that it’s charging and when I go to use it the controller it’s dead. Although when I have the PS4 on it charges without any problems.”
Alright so i’m going to go through some reasons why your PS4 controller might not be charging.
1. Use a different micro-usb cable. Try a different usb cable to see if that’s the problem. Most smartphones use the same type of usb cable, grab one of those and try it out.
2. Next thing you can do is to see if the PS4 controller charges when the PS4 is turned on. Press and hold the PS button to enter the Quick Menu screen. You should see the PS4 controller’s battery icon. If it’s charging the three light bars will flash from zero bars to the third bar.
3. Are you charging the controller while the PS4 is completely turned off? The PS4 only charges the controller while in Rest mode.
4. By default, Rest mode only sends power to the USB ports for the first 3 hours when it enters Rest mode. So if you’re like me and forget to plug the controller in right away you’ll find that it won’t charge when you plug it in the next day while still in Rest mode.
We can change it so we can charge the PS4 controller at anytime. Go to ‘Settings’, scroll down to ‘Power Save Settings’. Select ‘Set Functions Available in Rest Mode’, choose ‘Supply Power to USB Ports’ and select ‘Always’.
