I can’t decide which one to buy. If I could afford to buy both I would. Which one is better the PS3 or the Xbox 360?
I prefer the Playstation 3 and here’s why:
- No red ring of death- Xbox 360’s have been dying everywhere due to poor design.
- PS3 has more power than the 360 – game graphics for the Playstation will only get better and better
- Free online play with the PS3 – you have to pay to play online with the 360
- PS3 doesn’t sound like a jet engine taking off
- Get online with the built in web browser on the PS3
- Blu-Ray player – this is probably the deciding factor for most people
- Built in Wireless – you need to purchase a separate wireless adapter to do wireless on the 360
Xbox 360 currently has a better line of games to play but I think things are beginning to shift towards the PS3 with some exclusives coming out like Metal Gear Solid , God of War 3, and of coarse the Final Fantasy Series.

I’m gonna have to do a counter point on this one because there are alot people out there who are in between about what to buy. In my opinion, go with your first instinct, not someone elses. For the sake of argument though here are some counter points:
-XB360 has a defect rate is reported to be around 34% for certain models. However, Microsoft offers a 3 year warranty free of charge.
-Saying one system is more or less powerful than the other is a little ridiculous. Each system is customly designed with completely unique hardware and completely separate operations. On a tech sheet you can say that one has a higher rate/frequency of a specific function, but when you begin to work into multi-dimentional tesselation and texture routines, most of those numbers have no meaning. Also you have to account for each developers understanding of the unique hardwares and how much of each they can or can’t take advantage of. So without a complete technical understanding of programming, hardware engineering and software application; such a comment is devoid of all meaning.
-PS3 is free online, yes. XB360 costs $3.44 per month annually. What does this $3.44 go to? Well on XB360 despite having a charge, you get to play with over 5 Million people worldwide. PS3 Network boasts a current 1 million users worldwide. Also, average bandwidth available to each network; PS3 90.0kb/s < XB360 2.1 Mb/s. So as you can see, the money gives you speed and diversity. If these things mean nothing to you, then take it as it applies.
-PS3 has a built web browser. XB360 does not. No counter point to be made.
-Blu-Ray functionality is not offered in XB360, so as stated this may be a deciding factor.
-Built-in wireless on PS3 while XB360 doesn’t have this. Should you have a wireless setup at home, getting started with an XB360 will put you back around $70-100 depending on the selected solution.
-Predicting trends regarding exclusives in completely impossible. If you had guessed this time last year that Devil May Cry 4 would be exclusive to PS3 due to prior standards, you would be wrong as it on PS3, XB360 and even PC in June.
Let’s take a look at things not accounted for.
-Price PS3 399.99 – 599.99
Xb360 279.99 – 449.99
-PS3’s do not include any HD output solution. Meaning those Blu-Ray movies are just DVD quality until you make an additional purchase.
-PS3 games usually require a minimal Hard Drive install of about 2.1-5GB of space. Meaning that even with the largest PS3 HD you would only have access to about 20-25 games before having to delete previous games to make room for new games.
I always feel when someone asks for advice you have a responsibility to give as much unbiased info as possible. I only made my counter points in favor of the XB360 due to the previous advice being so driven towards PS3. Ultimately I feel it comes down to what games you personally want to play and which system has them.

Although I do agree with some of your points Studidrak but…. OK first off you make it sound like 34% defect rate is not a big deal. That’s a huge number, that’s almost 4 out of 10 Xbox machines dying. Graphics – agreed, each machine has it’s advantages. No internet browser? It’s Microsoft! These people own Internet Explorer, this is a no brainer. The price is a little more expensive than the 360 but you have to remember you get a Blu-Ray player also which makes it the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there. No “hd output solution” by this I assume you mean it doesn’t include HDMI cables but isn’t that the case with most things. When I bought my HD-TV it didn’t come with any HD output cables.
The 360 is a great console with huge blockbuster titles. I gave reasons why I think the PS3 is better as a consumer and why I personally purchased the PS3. It’s up to you to decide what games you want to play and at the end of the day that’s all that matters. It’s the games that make a machine great not the other way around.

I used to own both the PS3 and the 360. I sold the 360. You get your money’s worth with the PS3. I had to buy so many things for the 360 like HD drive for $200 which is now obsolete, and the 360 doesn’t have a HDMI port (only the Elite). Had to buy the external wireless connection which set me back $100.There are no memory card reader on the 360 for music or pictures, no browser so I couldn’t even check my emails. The controller uses AA batteries so I bought a battery kit for $30.

While agree with points on all of the posts so far, I have to go with the PS3. While stupidrak is right about prices, does 360 even have an 80 GB console. And if it does how much does it cost. You can’t compare an 80 GB PS3 and a 60 GB xbox 360, and say xbox is better because it’s cheaper.
