Well my PS3 died this morning, again. This happens to my PS3 every once in awhile probably at least once a month. I would go and turn it on either by pressing the power button on the PS3 console or using the controller and it won’t on. It would act like it was booting up for about 2 seconds cause I can hear and feel the fan blow and then it turns off and begins to flash red.
Here is exactly what happens, I press the power, the light goes green for a second then turns yellow and beeps twice then flashes red. Try it again and the same thing happens. Sometimes I get lucky and I can get it working after a few tries but this morning I tried turning it on least 20 times and gave up out of frustration.
So I finally gave in and decided to call Sony and get my PS3 serviced because it was less than a year old so why not use the warranty. After answering a few questions on the phone like “Is the fan moving”, “Is anything blocking the vents?”, “Is the PS3 in a cabinet?”. I know it was definitely not a overheating issue. So they’re gonna send me a special box where I can package my PS3 and send it in for repairs.
Oh by the way I did get the PS3 working again but this is starting to get real annoying so I’m still gonna send it in and hopefully get it fixed. The only thing that sucks is I’ll be out of a Blu-Ray player for at least a few weeks.
I found a YouTube video of someone with the exact same PS3 flashing light problem check it out to see what I’m talking about.

How did you get it working? I’ve been turning on and off mine, taking off the hdd, placing it back, but nothing. By the way, sony is a bitch, specially if your warranty ended!

The way I usually got it to work again is pressing the on and off button repeatedly and in different number of combination’s like holding the power button down for a few seconds, or quickly pressing it sometimes it works after a few tries but sometimes it doesn’t at all. Maybe I just go lucky, who knows. Wish I could tell you what they did to fix it but I didn’t get any kind of specific information on that.

The PS3 red flashing lights error is caused by a hard drive connection error, not overheating, so props to you for working that one out by yourself ๐ When the connection between your HDD and motherboard is severed (even temporarily, which can happen quite easily) the red light error develops. Also, if your HDD has any corrupted data packets then the error can develop this way as well.
The most simple thing you can do to try and fix the error is to power down your PS3, carefully remove the hard drive, then put it back in again. Often this is all it takes to reset the connection between the HDD and motherboard and get rid of that pesky red light. Just make sure you don’t accidentally damage anything in the process.
There’s not much point in getting Sony to fix your PS3, because if your warranty has expired or you don’t have a warranty you’re gonna have to kiss goodbye to 150 of your dollars, and you’re gonna have around 6 weeks gaming down time, which is far too much. At worst, it will cost you around $40 to fix your PS3 yourself, and will take less than a couple of hours.
If you couldn’t get your PS3 going again by resetting the hard drive connection, then you’ll have to carry out some slightly more detailed repairs. Having repaired a number of PS3 consoles in the past.
I wish you all the best for getting your PS3 fixed, and if any of you guys out there want free one-on-one technical support for your console then visit my blog/website, and contact me from there. I’ll be most willing to help.

the redlight of death issue is only 1 issue and that is the overheqating of the chip sets causing them to become jolted
what you need to do is open the ps3 and clean every component so it has no dust rendering the machine fully clean
Then what you need to do is remove the sticky tabs from the mother board on both sides ensuring you know where they go
then you need to clean off the thermal compound on the cu and gpu and heatsinks
then you need a heat gun heated to 350 far and heat the cpu and gpu on both sides for 15 seconds each chip AND allowing the mother board to cool before doing the other side
NEVER move the mother board untill it is cool again
Add the thermal compound to the cpu and gpu and put the ps3 back to gether again
This is a well known issue and this is the only cause of this issue and is proven
I also fixed many ps3 systems with the same issue and all have been fixed
The longest lasting ps with this fix has been 1yr 3.5 months and counting
If you need help fixing your ps3 as you dont feel you could do it then mail me as i will do it for a fee and am located in north Dublin
Fix fee will be โฌ60
