I keep getting this annoying pop up ad next to my clock saying my computer is infected. I don’t think I downloaded anything bad or gone to any bad sites. I’m very careful and always clear my cookies and temporary internet files and stuff like that. I have the free AVG and Spybot on my computer. I did a scan with AVG but that didn’t work, and Spybot doesn’t start up anymore since that stupid “Your Computer is Infected” pop up started showing up. What do I need to do to get rid of this pop up?
Anytime you get a suspicious pop alert or some type of balloon pop up in the system tray next to the clock that warns you of viruses or spyware on your system and tells you to buy “our” product to get rid of it, don’t do it. Do not buy their junk, these things infect your computer and then sells you some crappy software to get rid of it. ITS A SCAM! This usually means your computer has the Smitfraud Infection.
Most general anti-spyware or anti-virus won’t remove this infection, but you already knew that huh. Try using this free tool SmitFraudFix.
