“How do I reduce my data usage in Netflix?”
In this post I’ll be going through the steps on how to lower and reduce Netflix data usage. This includes both at home and while on mobile.
Steps for Reducing Data Usage in Netflix:
From the Netflix home screen scroll over to over to profile and click on ‘Account’.
Under the Profile & Parental Controls section select the Netflix profile to change.
Here you can reduce your Netflix data usage. Netflix offers four playback settings each will vary in data usage.
If you want to begin reducing Netflix data usage you’ll want to select ‘Low’. This will play basic video and basic audio quality. This setting uses around 0.3 GB per hour and will definitely lower your data usage while using Netflix.
Setting | Video Quality | GB per hour |
Low | Basic video | 0.3 GB |
Medium | Standard video quality | 0.7 GB |
High | Best video quality | 1 GB – 7 GB |
Auto | Adjusts automatically based on connection |
If you want to reduce data while using your iPhone or Android Netflix app.
Click on the Profile icon in the upper right hand corner and select ‘Account’.
Go into ‘App Settings’, tap on ‘Cellular Data Usage’.
Automatically is probably turned on by default. Deselect that by tapping it.
You can now choose between three options Wi-Fi Only, Save Data and Maximum Data.
Save Data is a good option for using mobile data when you can’t connect to any Wi-Fi. Accoring to Netflix you can watch around six hours of video for every one GB of data.
The best thing you could do is download videos while connected to Wi-Fi to avoid any data usage.
Download Netflix programming will allow you to watch videos from your mobile device without using data.
