“I download a file that’s in a strange ISO format. How do I install an ISO file on my Windows 7 computer?”
An iso file is like a virtual disc. You can use a program to burn that file onto a disc or you can mount the ISO image on your computer and use it like it was a disc you’ve put into your computer drive.
How to Mount ISO image:
1. Download Virtual Clonedrive. It’s free and doesn’t seem to have unwanted adware that’s so common with these kinds of programs.
2. After downloading and installing the software go to your .iso file and right click on the file.
3. If you have Virtual Clonedrive installed properly on your Windows 7 machine you should see an option called ‘Mount (Virtual CloneDrive E:)’ from the drop down menu.
4. Click on it to open your iso image to view its contents. If its a video you should have an option to play it using your default music player. If its some kind of program you may get the option to run it or install it. It just depends on what’s on that particular ISO image.
5. When finished, unmount the ISO image file by going to your Windows taskbar and right-clicking on Virtual Clonedrive and selecting ‘Unmount’. This is like ejecting the CD/DVD out of your computer’s disc drive.
