“I’m trying to do a mod for my Minecraft game but I cant find the jar file. Where is the minecraft.jar file? I can’t find it anywhere.”
1. Hit the Windows Start menu icon, enter %appdata% in the search box.
2. You should see a folder called ‘Roaming’ from the search results. Click on it to open this folder.
3. Click on the ‘.minecraft’ folder to open it.
4. Click on the ‘bin’ folder.
5. Look for a file name ‘minecraft’. This is your minecraft.jar file. To confirm this, look beside the file name to see if it is a ‘Executable Jar File’. If you’re computer doesn’t show file extensions you will not see ‘minecraft.jar’, you will only see ‘minecraft’. I will show you how to turn on file extension so you can see the whole file name.
6. To open this .jar file you’ll need a program like Winrar or 7-Zip. Right-click on the minecraft.jar file and select open with ‘Winrar or 7-Zip’. Remember to back up the original minecraft.jar file before you open this up to mess around with it.
How to show file extension:
1. Click ‘Start -> Control Panel’.
2. Go to the search box at the top right corner and enter ‘file extension’ and hit your ‘Enter’ key.
3. Click ‘Show or hide file extensions’ under Folder Option.
4. Look for ‘Hide extensions for known file types’, uncheck it by clicking on the box. Hit ‘Apply’ to save.
5. Now you will see the ‘minecraft.jar’ file following the steps above. Remember to back up your minecraft.jar file before you mess around with it (right click on the file and select copy).

I’ve got the same problem. anyone know how to get the bin folder?
Jomo says
The bin should be easy to find. On windows go to task manager ( You can find it by doing Ctrl + alt + delete ) Find Java(TM) Platform SE Binary*. Then right click it. Go to file location and it shows you the jar!
* Minecraft must be open
