A few days ago I had no problem with my iPod syncing to iTunes. I would connect the iPod to my computer as usual and it would appear under devices. But now my iPod won’t sync to iTunes, I tried updating iTunes and even different usb ports but my iPod still will not sync, help me please.
Try reseting your iPod. press and hold the center button and the top menu button for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. This may take several tries.
Other things to try:
1.The iPod battery might need to be recharged.
2.Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPod to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard)
3.Restart your computer and reconnect iPod to your computer.
4.Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.

Bill says
My iPod Classic wouldn’t sync with iTunes. Here’s what fixed the problem for me:
On the opening Summary page of iTunes, the page that you see when your iPod syncs with iTunes, there’s a checkbox labeled “Manually manage music and videos.” I removed the check, and checked the box below it labeled “Enable disk use”. As soon as I did that the iPod started syncing with iTunes. Several hundred songs (about 10% of my total) had to be resynched, so it took a while. Then everything worked.
Sheri says
So, I have tried every suggestion on this page…at least 3 times, in different orders. It still won’t sync from computer to iPod. I can get my iPod send purchased items to my computer. This is a new computer, I have Vista and XP on it. I have downloaded all updated, restarted computer, iPod and tried different ports and everything else posted here. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I did part of Bill’s suggestion, but I don’t have the “Enable disk use” showing, but everything else I have done. I still need help! Please. Thanks!
Sheri says
I was able to “grab and drag” the items into my ipod…and it works… so that is acceptable to me.

I tried this over and over and nothing happened. I have a click-wheel iPod & got a new iPod touch for Christmas so I had to update iTunes for the new iPod. They both plug in and work on my laptop and now they don’t work at all. I tried to contact iTunes but they wanted me to sit on hold for 15 minutes and then pay them to tell me what’s wrong with the +$300 device I bought from them.
The Mikester says
Hey here is the answer, and it’s a lot more simple. go to start. type ‘services’ click the top one under ‘programs’. Click on the ‘Apple Mobile Device Service’. Click ‘Stop the Service’. then start it again. now it should sync. (i have an ipod touch g4 so good luck)
andrew says
Scroll down in itunes on the page where you sync scroll down to Options and check the box for Manually Manage Music and Videos. This may seem scary when it tells you that this will erase your ipod and sync it with your itunes but this is prob what you want. your ipod may have been connected to a different/older itunes library for some odd reason. this worked for me.
aileen says
i did all that and still nothing! i don’t know what else to do! i accidentally erased all the songs on my iPod and now it won’t sync. it has no music or pictures and i don’t know what else to do!

Make sure the “manually manage music” box is NOT checked. Unchecking it will display a prompt similar to “Are you sure you want to, blah blah.” Hit yes, or accept, then it will tell you that it is syncing. Good luck!

I recently lost all my Notes after a sync so ticked the box to I ticked the box in Devices to prevent the automatic sync. My intention was to try and restore the notes from my last backup. This was some months ago. I’ve now tried to sync my Iphone with my laptop but the phone does not register on Itunes at all. So I can’t try and restore the backup or sync. I’ve uninstalled Itunes, and reinstalled it. I’ve restarted the Iphone and the laptop. The automatic sync is authorised on the laptop. Is there something I should do on the phone settings to get my laptop to see the Iphone?

SOLUTION that worked for me.
I would recommend to anyone…
I torched my computer. Got the usual messages about ‘cant sync w/o erasing your ipod and putting the blank iTunes library on it’ message.
Windows Vista 32…
DOWNLOADED SHAREPOD:
http://www.getsharepod.com/download/
INSTALLED IT.
Connected Ipod to computer.
Closed iTunes when it auto launched.
Unzipped the SharePod dir that I downloaded.
Ran SharePod (no installation was necessary).
SharePod auto detected my iPod.
CLICKED THE COPY TO COMPUTER BUTTON…
which copies the whole shootin’ match to your computer.
chose a directory that i wanted it all copied to.
chose a format
(genre – artist – song – track) or
(artist \ album \ song.mp3) etc etc
CLICKED THE CHECK BOX “IMPORT MY MUSIC TO ITUNES”
CLICKED THE OK BUTTON
it did the copy and finished.
OPENED ITUNES
(side note – after torching my computer back to factory-new my iTunes library was blank) (see left side of iTunes, at the top it says LIBRARY / Music…it’s completely blank after torching your computer and reinstalling)
Now, however, when I opened iTunes my formerly BLANK iTunes library was full of WHAT WAS on my ipod.
I went (my ipod) further down on the left side,
went to the top middle of iTunes and
changed from the Summary tab to the Music tab and
clicked the check box for Sync Music.
DONT WORRY:
IT STILL ASKED if i wanted to “ERASE and put this library onto your ipod” – I said Sync Music (not cancel) figuring that since what is now in this library was what was on the ipod – it should be OK to erase the ipod and put on it what WAS on it.

I tried every thing then realized that after resetting the Ipod, I needed to check the sync box in each separate section, Music, photos, podcast, etc. While your ipod is connected, highlight it in ITunes, the go through each section.
