List of iPhone symbols and meaning:
Cell Signal – Looks like a staircase. This displays if you’re in range of a cell signal. The more cell bars you have the better.
Airplane mode – When you have airplane mode on you cannot use the phone to make calls, get online or use Bluetooth.
4G – Shows 4G network is available.
3G – Shows 3G network is available.
The letter E – Shows Edge network is available.
Looks like a small circle. GPRS/1xRTT – Shows GSM or CDMA network is available.
Wi-Fi – iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Looks like two oval linked together. Personal Hotspot – iPhone is connected to another iPhone.
Syncing – iPhone is syncing with iTunes.
Network Activity – Network activity.
Call Forwarding – The iPhone is setup for call forwarding.
VPN – iPhone is connected to a VPN network.
Lock – iPhone is locked.
TTY – Set to work with TTY machine.
Play – Some type of audio is playing (song, podcast, audiobook).
Portrait orientation lock – iPhone screen is locked in portrait mode
Alarm – Alarm is on.
Location Services – An app is using location service.
Bluetooth – Bluetooth is on and paired with a device.
Bluetooth Battery – Level of battery on a supported Bluetooth device.
Battery – Battery level.
My iphone went completely black. I plugged it in to the wall charger and I can see a very faint red portion of a batterey symbol and below that I see a wall plug symbol a + symbol and what appears to be a lightening symbol. Phone does not seem to be charging

To unlock portrait orientation double click home swipe to go to the left and touch portrait orientation

I have an exclamation mark symbol (!) next to the battery icon. Not sure how I got it and unable to remove it. Any ideas ?
So i had an icon appear on my iPhone with the letter “E” on the top by the time and battery percentage. I did not turn this on and or does it need to be turned on to use to? I had fallen asleep and ha my phone totally exposed to persons who like to get in my phone. My iPhone has a pass code lock in order to get in it. Which is strange because if how they turn on the Edge Network without know it…. Please send me comments and solutions please! Thanks you-Pat

You need to plug it into a computer and got to iTunes it sounds like your phone has been wiped clean, hopefully you had a backup on iTunes.

There is no incoming voice in my phone
To turn the location service off or find what is using it.
Navigate to Settings, then tap Privacy,tap location services and then you can toggle it off. Or you can leave it on and turn whatever uses the location service off.
The crescent moon symbol next to the time means “Do not disturb” is on in your settings.
Inside the battery symbol on the top right of the screen the lightning symbol will change to a plug symbol, what does that mean?
