iOS 5 offers a nice set of emoticons and images you can put into your text messages, Twitter, Instagram, emails and whatever else that uses a keyboard. You may need to update if you are running an earlier iOS software.
Note: Only Apple iOS devices will see these special characters (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch).
How to turn on enable ‘Emoji’ for the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch:
1. Tap ‘Settings’.
2. Locate ‘General’ and select it.
3. Tap ‘Keyboard’.
4. Select ‘International Keyboard’.
5. Tap on ‘Add Keyboards’
6. Find Emoji from the list of keyboards.
7. That’s it. Now go use your keyboard. You will now have a little globe icon beside the spacebar.
8. Now you can add emoticon symbols to your text messages, Twitter, Instagram, emails and anything that uses the keyboard. Remember only other iPhones, iPads, iPod touch’s can see them.
