“How do I change to a different keyboard on my iPad and iPhone? Any way to switch it?”
The recent iOS 8 software update allows users to change the default keyboard to a third-party keyboard.
How to use a different keyboard:
1. First thing you’ll need to do is download a third-party keyboard from the App Store. My current favorite is ‘SwiftKey Keyboard‘.
2. Once you have a third-party keyboard app installed we’ll need to activate it to start using it as our default iOS keyboard.
3. Tap on the ‘Settings’ icon.
4. From the ‘General’ section, tap on ‘Keyboard’.
5. Select ‘Keyboards’.
6. Select ‘Add New Keyboard…’.
7. Under the ‘Third-Party Keyboards’ section. Tap on the the keyboard you’ve downloaded from the App Store.
8. Now under the Keyboards section your new keyboard should have been added to this section. Tap the keyboard and tap on the ‘Allow Full Access’ toggle to turn it on.
9. Confirm that you want to ‘Allow’ this keyboard full access. It is important that you trust the keyboard developer.
10. Now on last thing, tap on ‘Edit’ from the upper right corner. We need to move our new keyboard to the top of the list of keyboards so it becomes the default keyboard.
11. Drag your keyboard by tap/hold the three bars and drag the keyboard up to the list so it’s in first place. Tap ‘Done’ when you’re finished.
Now go have fun with your fresh new keyboard.
Note: While using any keyboard you can change to the next installed keyboard by tapping the ‘Globe’ icon from the current keyboard.
