If you get a little yellow balloon that pops up on your task bar warning you that the virtual memory is low it should not be a great cause of concern. If this happens just once that’s OK because that balloon basically says Windows has found a problem and is fixing it (hopefully it does).
If you keep getting “low virtual memory” warning than it could be your settings do not allow Windows to make the changes it needs. First thing you should check is your hard drive, open up “My Computer” and right click the drive (usually C drive) and choose “Properties” you can see how much space is available on the drive and the size of the hard drive. If there is less than 10 % of free space than you need to free up some space either by deleting files or moving files you do not need or uninstalling program you no longer use, you could also try the “Disk Cleanup” button.
If you have plenty of drive space and space is not an issue you may need to configure your virtual memory settings.
- Right click on “My Computer” and scroll down to “Properties”
- Select the “Advanced”
- Click the “Setting” tab in the performance panel
- Click “Advanced” tab in Perfomance dialog box
- In the Virtual memory” panel click “Change”
- Now select “System managed size” and click “OK”
- Close all the dialog boxes by clicking “OK” that should fix the “low on virtual memory” warnings
