Unfortunately there’s not any way around it, that’s why its called “private” and Facebook has it there to protect its users.
The easiest way to view someone’s private Facebook page is just to get them to add you as a Facebook Friend but in your case you want to remain anonymous.
Send him a message – create a bogus account and send him a message. If he responds to your message you’ll be granted temporary access to his Facebook profile. Send him a message like “Hey, it’s Matt from ‘your son’s school name here’, how’s it going”. Then wait for a response and “whamo” instant access to their profile.
If the above is a bit to sneaky for you try asking one of his friends who are already his Facebook Friend to show you his profile. Tell them you’re concern and just want to check up on him.
