“How do I record my screen for the Mac? Is there a good free screen recording software?”
Believe it or not the Mac has a pretty good built in screen recorder. Quicktime on the Mac allows you to capture your screen easily and without paying for third-party applications. This is a great tool for training and showing people how to do things. You’ll need to have Mac OSX 10.7+ (Lion or higher).
How to record screen using QuickTime Player:
1. Open QuickTime Player.
2. Go up to the menu bar and select ‘File’ and from the drop down menu select ‘New Screen Recording’.
3. Now a small recording player will appear on the screen. When you are ready to record your screen press the red record button located in the middle.
4. When you press the record button you have the option to record the whole screen or just a section of the screen. Click any where to record the whole screen or click and drag the portion you want to record. Click ‘Start Recording’ button to begin capturing the video.
5. When you are finished recording press the Stop button inside the player. A Playback will appear to view your recording. Press Play to view.
7. Now to save your video. Press the X in the upper-left corner of the window like you want to close it. It will ask if you want to save the video file.

It’s quick and easy to screencast with QuickTime, but it doesn’t offer any advanced features such as highlight effects and multiple recording formats with more advanced solutions like Acethinker Screen Grabber does.
