The PSP is a great portable device and is awesome for playing back videos. It can be a little tricky to put videos on to your psp, but I will show you how I put videos on my PSP. It is a lot easier to put videos on the PSP now then it was a few years back when you had to put them in these strange folders like “MP_ROOT” and“100mnv01” but Sony has made it easier with some firmware upgrades. In order to put videos on the PSP you must have enough memory to store the videos.
PSP memory is called Memory Stick Duo, you may need to upgrade your memory depending on what package you bought. I would recommend at least 1gb. You need to format your memory stick if its the first time your are using it, that will give you the appropriate folders to put videos, pictures, and music.
PSP play videos in MP4 video format, so in order to put any videos on your PSP you will need to convert your video compatible for psp playback. I will assume that you already have videos on your computer for this tutorial because ripping DVD’s is whole other topic. Before you can put video into your PSP you will need to convert it. I use 3GP Converter for my converting jobs it’s easy to use and its compact and it’s free 3GP will convert most popular formats like avi and wma files. Another good free psp video converter is PSP Video 9
Here’s how to use 3gp converter:
- After you download the converter you will need to extract the files, I use 7zip it’s free
- Right click on the zipped file and choose 7 Zip and than Extract here
- Now in the folder you should have a 3gp_Converter.exe click on it and the program will appear
- Choose the settings you would like the video to convert
- Click and drag the video files to the main window and it will start converting the video
- Depending one your computer and the size of the video it could take a while to convert
- Once that is done it’s time to put the video on the psp
Here’s how to put the video files on the psp:
- Plug PSP into the computer via usb
- Navigate across the menu to left to Settings
- Now go up to USB Connection
- You should have a number of folders including a Video folder
- Click and drag the converted video into that folder
- That’s how you put video on the psp, to watch the video just navigate to Video and enjoy
