Just got a shiny new PSP and not sure how to put music on the PSP. Here’s a quick guide of what you need to know to playback music with the PSP.
The PSP can support the following music formats:
- MP3
- WMA – this has to be enabled on your PSP
- WAV
- MP4
- ATRAC3plus™- will not play on Memory Stick PRO Duo cards
- ATRAC3™- will not play on Memory Stick PRO Duo cards
- AAC(.MP4)
- AAC (.3GP)
Music with copy protection may not playback on the PSP. You will need to remove the copy protection and you can do that by making and burning an audio CD than ripping that same CD to MP3 format.
If you want to put a CD on your PSP then it’ best to use a free program like Windows Media Player to rip the CD in MP3 format. Here’s a guide on how to rip a CD using Windows.
Plug in the PSP with the proper USB cable to your computer.
Power on the PSP and scroll all the way to the left until you’ve reached “Settings”. Now scroll up to “USB Connection” and hit the “X” button.
Now Windows should see the PSP as a Memory Stick or Removable Disk. To find it go to Start > Computer > Memory Stick (with some letter).
Now click on that Memory Stick icon and you should see different folders on the memory stick and if you don’t you may need to format your PSP memory stick.
Open up the Music folder, this is where you will put your music on the PSP. Your songs can be in a folder or without a folder. But songs cannot be in a folder within a folder, the PSP will not see those songs. So basically no folder can be inside another folder. Look at the image from Sony below for better understanding of what I’m talking about.
All you have to do now is click and drag songs or albums into the PSP Music folder. Now you know how to put music on the PSP.
