For this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to download Steam games to your new drive.
So in my situation here, I ran out of space on my hard drive. It’s only a 250 GB ssd. So I went out and bought a 500 GB SSD.
Here are some common errors you may run into when trying to download Steam games onto your new SSD drive.
‘new Steam library can’t be root’
‘failed to create new Steam Library’
‘new steam library folder must be writable’
Here’s how to create a new Steam Library folder onto your new SSD drive.
- Open the Steam app on your PC.
- Select ‘Steam’ in the upper left hand corner and go to ‘Settings’.
- Go to ‘Downloads’ and click on ‘Steam Library Folders’.
- Click on ‘Add library folder’.
- Choose the new SSD drive you want to install the new Steam Library folder.
- With the new drive selected click on ‘New folder’.
- By default the folder is called ‘SteamLibrary’. Click OK to finish.
