Whenever you do any work involving opening up a computer case it is very important to wear a anti-static wrist strap to prevent frying the delicate components inside the computer. If you don’t have a anti-static wrist strap then touch something metal like a nut or bolt before touching anything inside the computer case.

Before you go and replace your graphics card you need to know how your graphics card plugs into your motherboard inside your computer. it could be PCI Express slot, PCI slot, or the older AGP card slot. If you aren’t sure which connection your graphics card is using then it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take that old card with you when shopping for a new and ask some expert for assistance.

• Turn off the computer and disconnect any power cords and plugs
• Now to install our new graphics card we will need to open up the computer case. For most cases there are usually two screws you need to remove before you can slide the case open
• Now locate the and take out the old graphics card, you may need to remove one screw that’s attached to the case
• The new graphics card should snap easily in place, give it a nice firm push to make sure its all the way in and reconnect the screw to the case. This is where it’s very important to have the correct graphics card for your slot. A PCI Express graphics card will not fit in a AGP slot and vice versa
• After installing the new card we can put the case back on and plug back all the power cables we unplugged
• One last thing we need to do is install the proper drivers for the graphics card. Start the machine and put in the CD that came with the card and follow the instructions. Or the operating system will look online for the proper drivers for the card or you can do it manually by going to the cards website and search for the drivers for that particular graphics card
