“I recently received notice from Newsgator saying they will no longer offer their RSS reader online and that I need to move my feeds to Google reader. How do I do this?”
Lucky for you my friend that I received that same notice and I actually need to do the same thing so lets go through it together.
Here’s how to export from Newsgator and then import into Google Reader.
Sign into your NewsGator Online account.
Click on “Settings” on the top menu bar.
Click on the “Edit Locations” tab.
Now you’re in the Edit tab, under the “NewsGator Web Edition” title there’s a “OPML” link, click on that.
You see the OPML settings page, make sure “Expose OPML to all users” is checked off and click “Save Changes”.
Click that same “OPML” link again and you will get a clickable link. Right click on that link and save it. To save the link its usually “Save Link As..” or “Save as..” something along those lines.
Rename the file you just downloaded to something with the .opml extension. I’ll name mine “rss.opml”.
Alright we’re all done with Newsgator now so lets open up Google Reader.
Click on “Settings” in Google Reader.
Select “Import/Export”.
Click the “Browse” button and locate that “.opml” and hit the “Upload” button and be done with it.
You should now see the list of your RRS subscriptions imported into Google Reader.
