“How do I download music to the PSP?”
If you’re using a brand new memory stick you may need to format the stick to create the proper folder structure. Go here for instructions on how to format the PSP.
Before you begin downloading music from your computer to the PSP check and make sure it’s in a compatible format. If your music is in WMA format you will need to enable WMA placyback on the PSP which is found in Settings > System Settings.
PSP compatible audio formats:
- MP3
- MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer 3
- MP3 Surround
- MP4 (MPEG-4 AAC)
- WAVE (Linear PCM)
- WMA
- Memory Stick Audio Format (ATRAC)
1. Attach the PSP to your computer using the supplied USB cable. If you don’t have one you can buy PSP USB cables for around 10 bucks at any big electronic retailer. If you happen to have a digital camera USB cable that may work too if its mini USB.
2. When the PSP is connected to the computer turn on the PSP and scroll all the way to the left to “Settings” and scroll down to “USB Connection” and press the “X” button. In the latest PSP firmware when your PSP is on and you plug in the USB it will automatically go to “USB Connection”.
3. Now your computer should respond back to you about a removable drive has been connected. Usually the drive letter is typically E or F. Open up the PSP memory drive.
4. If your memory stick was properly formatted you should have a “Music” folder, this is where you put your songs obviously. Your music folders cannot have more than 3 folders within a certain folder or else the PSP will not see the songs on the third folder. View the diagram below to see what I’m talking about.
5. When you’re done putting all your music onto the PSP disconnect the USB and press the “O” button to get out of the USB mode, and scroll to “Music”. That’s the basic steps on putting music onto the PSP, enjoy.
