There’s a program that my parents put on the family computer called Net Nanny, how do I disable Net Nanny so I can go back to MSN Messenger and other stuff. This is just driving me crazy.
Here’s a quick and easy way to bypass Net Nanny so you can start chatting and get to you favorite websites and be non-productive.
Get into the Task Manager by pressing “Ctrl + ALT + DELETE” now we need to find the proper Net Nanny process to close out. Find “NNscv.exe” and “nntray.exe”. End each of those processes. Now Net Nanny should be disabled.

i have tried the mutliple and simple ways to try and dsable and bypass netnanny, and so far the farthest i can go is o the sign in page but netnanny can still block it. those codes are not listed because i have the newest updated feature which updates every time i turn on my computer. how can i easliy 100% bypass it completely? (if i remove it i will be expelled)
Roy says
The newest version of net nanny is simply impossible to bypass. You can use a website to hide your ip adress such as ninjacloak.com but thats only a temporary and ineffective way to surf the web with net nanny. I tried deleting the program and drivers straight from my hard drive, and it ended up messing up my computer totally. The only way to remove net nanny is with a full system restore which is a total pain in the ass, but worth it.

How to disable Net Nanny
Method 1
To disable Net Nanny temporarily:
Press CTRL, ALT, and DELETE simultaneously, bringing up the task manager Highlight “Wnldr32” and click ‘End Task’.
This will kill Net Nanny until the next time you restart your computer. After you restart your computer or restart Windows, Net Nanny will be running again.
To disable Net Nanny permanently:
Open the file c:\windows\system.ini. Under the section marked “[boot]”, there should be a line labeled “drivers=” with some stuff listed after it. Remove the word “wndrv16.dll” from the “drivers=” line. (If there are other words listed on the “drivers=” line, leave them there, just remove “wndrv16.dll”.) Save changes to the file and restart your computer.
After you restart your computer, Net Nanny should be permanently gone.
Other stuff:
To clear the log file without needing the admin password:
Go to C:\Netnanny (or whatever directory it’s been installed into)
Delete the file “Wnn3.log”
NOTE: This file can’t be edited, as it seems to be encrypted, but this will sucessfully clear the entire log without any passwords necessary.
– Contributed by Peter
Method 2
These instructions were taken from Glen Roberts’s “Nurse Your Net Nanny” page. They were written in October 1996 so they might not work for more recent versions of Net Nanny.
FROM WINDOWS 95:
1. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL all at the same time
2. Select OCRAWARE
3. Click on the button END TASK
(To re-enable Net Nanny Restart your system.)
FROM DOS OR WINDOWS 3.1:
1. Type C:
2. Type CD \
3. Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS
4. Type REM in front of the line DEVICE=C:\NN\NNDRV.SYS
5. Reboot your system
Or, use notepad from Windows to edit the file.
(To re-enable Net Nanny remove the REM and reboot your system.)

FOUND A BETTER WAY!
Install Google Chrome, Net Nanny can’t touch it.
-YAY-
but if anyone knows how to stop it from blocking m games, that would be great.
Nick f says
The newest version is not impossible to do… My mom just downloaded it and all you have to do is go into processes in the task manager and end anything that starts with a CW
Wiehann de Klerk says
There is an even easier way to stop net nanny, just download Google Chrome, net Nanny can’t block any websites on Google Chrome. It works, trust me
MarDoe says
no of these ways work on my pc.
i have win vista and i tried
Chrome – works not
kill all processes start with CW
Wnldr32 (there was no Wnldr32 in my taskmanager)
Has somebody an idea?
Sorry for bad language…

If you have administrative rights on a Vista (or Windows 7, I don’t know) COMPUTER, you can go into the task manager and select the “Services” tab, then click on the “services” button. Right click on ContentWatch and go to properties. Turn “startup type” to “off” this will prevent it from starting up after you close it. Internet browsers won’t run without it, though, so that’s another obstacle.

Hi!
Okay, so my parents put Netnanny on my computer, which is a newly purchased PC (about five months old or so). Google Chrome is definitely being filtered through Netnanny. One of the ways didn’t work because I am not an administrator. If anyone knows the best more reliable way that CAN GET THIS OFF MY COMPUTER, PLEASE PLEASE tell me!
I find it odd that my parents can see everything I do on my facebook accounts and what my friends do, that’s just weird. HELP ME!

Jason says
Okay guys here we go…
If you don’t know anything about computers don’t try this…
What you need is a linux bootdisk… (Ubuntu)
Once ou have this, boot up into Ubuntu and locate “C:\Windows\system32\skeys.exe” (windows XP)
change the “skeys.exe” to “skeys1.exe” locate “cmd” in the same location and change that to “skeys”…
NOW log off, on the log on screen press the shift button seven times… This should now start the command prompt… In the command prompt type… “start explorer.exe”
AND BAM! You’re in the system account!
Have fun!
Jason says
Oh sorry.. five times for sticky keys!
Not done this hack in ages!
So… If this does work!
Get back to me!!
Jason says
PLUS…
I’m an IT Technician so all of the minor points/any errors i’ve made in the instructions would be pretty easy for me to sort out..
If you run into any difficulties just ask.
Bnanacheese says
I have it on Mac, and it’s nearly impassable. If anyone knows ANY WAY TO GET PAST THIS, PLEASE TELL ME! the Mac Task manager doesn’t work, and Macs are a lot simpler and pretty much indestructible when it comes to hacking it. HOW DO I GET THROUGH ON MAC???
csquard says
what about a vista? how can i get 6.0 off my lap top when i have vista

I have a way to work on ALL forms. If your allowed on AOL you can use the AOL Browser while signed in. Netnanny DOES say things, but just X out of them, I use it , or hassle. All you need to do to make an acount is to put your name, screename, and PASSWORD. Make sure you make a FULL AOL account, not KOL or young teen, FULL ADULT AOL. Because the lower grades also have a blocking system built in.
sandy says
Oh my God, please HELP ME!!! I’m on a macintosh, and this thing is absolutely driving me crazy! I’ve searched everywhere and tried everything, but I still CAN’T sign in at MSN! Please, any advice? I would be SO thankful!

ok if you REALLY want to get net nanny off ur comp then you press ctrl alt delete then delete everything with CW in front of it. THE CW DOESNT HAVE TO BE CAPITAL! after you delete that find the things that start with NDS. IF YOU RESTART YOUR COMPUTER NET NANNY WILL COME BACK!!!!!!!
alex says
lol i hate this stupid fuckin shit (netnanny) that mi mom put on mi mother fuckin comp i cant fuckin hack it or anything it sucks =S

lol I passed it says
all you have to do is download Firefox 4.0 beta 6. Net nanny does not filter it at all.
Have fun xD
Fuge says
Ok this is a kind of skechy method but , Download winrar and find you netnanny folder. Right click on it and press add to netnanny.rar. After you have all the files archived, delete the net nanny folder. Now you can go around net nanny free jsut remember to extract itbefore you shut Down or your parents might notice. Note if your computer glitches up and doesn’t even let you on to the Internet then just extract all the files from the archive all youi be fine. Just make sure that when u extract it it is at the same location that it was before hand or madness will happen. Also make sure that u end all cw processes before you delter or u will get a crap load of errors. If you still can’t delete then make a killer program(assuming you cna code, I’ll make it for. You if you telly want me to) o clean out that folder.
Chris says
So I’ve got Windows 7 Home Edition and i tried to end all the processes with cw in front of them will be deleted, and the other refuses to be deleted, and as soon as i turn on the task manager again, the other is back online. i don’t really mind the filtering on the internet (much) but i would really like to play m games.
admin says
try deleting the process tree.
Andrew says
ok so i play S4 and this thing boots me out of my games when my time is up. THE OLD VERSION didnt do that. Go to vizardrebirth.forumotion.net and we will find a way to shut this down. Im a coder. And my friend does networking coding so make an account and post the problem. We will pull through.
Chris says
@ admin process tree?
Joe Arst says
I figured it out! U need to download ultrasurf this is a proxy that net nanny does not recognize. If net nanny blocks the download, get it from another computer and put it on yours via a usb flash drive. You can browse whatever you want with ultrasurf and to start it all you need to do is click it and ur good! Plus if your parents or whatever have enabled the thing that reports what your doing online like watching your facebook or msn chat… the thing that spies on you will not function with ultrasurf. YOUR WELCOME!! haha
Joe Arst says
and another way to bypass it completely is to just go into program files. go to net nanny then delete all the crap in there you can. for some files it may say you cant delete them. but just delete all the ones u can. It will stop working completely. When your done with the computer its a good idea to go to the recycle bin and restore all the files so your parents don’t know. to do it again just repeat the steps above. this one obviously dosn’t work on mac.
DAD says
Another way to bypass Netnanny is ….growing up and paying your bills. For now your are under your parents rulez!!!!
Crisis says
Your parents have installed NetNanny for your own benefit!
They know what’s best and try to protect you from the obscenities of the world – which are quite shocking and gruesome.
Don’t try to hack , just understand what I said and be content.
Onof says
go to C:\Program Files\ContentWatch and deleat everything you can, net nanny will stay disabled until you restore the files from the recycling bin
ninja says
want a sneak, my friend had it on his computer, search for a look for a program called Refog you can get a few day trial for it and it’s just like net nanny but it hides everything no processes no desktop icon no startmenu button only opens however u set it up, the next time your parents log into their admin profile on it it will log their key strokes so u can figure out there pass. problem solved 😛

My stupid step dad put Net Nanny on my computer but the this is that it doesn’t block websites! I only have 2 hours and 30 minitues of internet a day! So after that time anything I’m on the uses internet just closes its terrible and my mom and sted dad are suck ass holes cus they don’t give a shit. Anyone know how to get ride of it or at least make the time longer?
Kinis says
Trying to disable or delete NetNanny is pointless, it overwrites Windows network interface with their own version, which won’t work if the application isn’t running.
What you need to do is find a way NOT to use the infected network interface.
Get a Linux LiveCD (find a distribution that suits you, preferably with Flash and codecs preinstalled) and boot your computer with it, or install Linux on a flash drive and run Linux from there (check http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ for tutorials on how to do it).
Hope it helps.
Pat-rick says
Ok guys this is pretty simple, just go to control panel>add remove programs> click on “net nanny” or it may say something like that relating to net nanny> click “remove” if this doesn’t work you probably have the new update. In this case, I’m afraid the best way to fix this is by completely whipping your computer memory (after first saving your files to a backup disk or USB drive… Hope this helped!!!
Alejandro says
You all should not delete Net Nanny. It’s for your own good and it wasn’t free either. So you can mess around and delete some file that cost $50 and not even think about it.
Micky says
Why would you want to delete nanny, when you can just fool it? 🙂
Go to http://www.virtualbox.org/ and download this application.
Create a virtual Windows (you need an installation CD or ISO image), then set network mode to “Bridged”.
The virtual system will connect to the network by itself, bypassing Net Nanny. This will let you surf the net freely, but running games in it may be a bit of a problem.

Try changing the time on your computer. On a Mac, go to Date and Time Preferences, uncheck Set Time Automatically, and set it a few hours back. Similar with PCs, I believe. It worked for me, with my dad setting a deadline for me with this stupid Net Nanny. Good luck!

Its so frustrating!!! I’ve looked all over the internet and can find anything taht actually works. It seems in the new vreision I have everythings different. And I look at solutions and I dont even know how old they are. So now that I’m writing this its 9/11/11. If I find anything I will tell you guys.
Answer says
@Demos, you might want to check the dates on the guides your looking at. If there from before 2010 then don’t bother. And to help you I’ve found many ways to bypass it. You can use virtualbox like Micky said. You can dual boot your current os and linux, and with wubi you don’t even have to mess with partitions. You can use a proxies like https://leafprice.com. Normally that site would be blocked but the software isn’t set up to block sites that start with https. And on leafprice you can join the mailing list and get notified of new proxy sites. I feel bad for kids who have this installed and aren’t good enough with computers to figure this out.
Annie says
Alright, Where do you find the c:\windows\system.ini file in your computer? I can’t find it, I have a windows 7. I have no idea where it is at. If someone could mail me or something? That would be great. Thanks!
@Annie says
You probably have hidden files and folders enable, just search “hidden files” and click on the one that says enable or disable hidden files and folders!
-hope this helps
Dan says
You could try Tor to stop NetNanny from filtering the internet? NetNanny was meant to stop children from accidentaly accessing pornography and god knows what else. The way I see it, if you’re old enough to want to see something, you’re old enough to see it.

Lupa says
I have it on my computer, and I absolutely hate it! I have the password, but I am only allowed to use it when Net Nanny blocks me from things like Wikipedia or CNN but my parents will take the password away from me if I bypass anything else. Just ask your parents if you could have the password and use it for your research assignments for school, because Net Nanny keeps blocking you from researching, and you keep getting bad grades on your projects. Tell them you won’t use it on anything else. If you are sneaky, you will access all the websites your parents said not to and not tell them about it, and if you are naughty, you will completely remove it from your computer. I just like to do what my parents say, so…

Once upon a time installing a citrix client would somehow leave Netnanny running without any filtering. They may have fixed it by now.

Really need help right now. Disabling the services and processes hasn’t worked. I also stopped the service from running on my hardware profile. Each and everytime I do this Net Nanny crashes…but not completely. The Internet goes down with it and so do games. …. Get your homework done, clean your room, and quit pretending you know more than I do.
Do you think I put Net Nanny on your PC because I wanted you to suffer?
If you knew half of what I do, you’d know that the REAL KIND OF SUFFERING comes from disobedience! Do you have even the SLIGHTEST IDEA how your actions today will lead to TREMENDOUS PAIN when you reach my age?
I do.
I’m trying my best to SAVE YOUR NAIVE butt from the suffering I have endured BECAUSE OF MY OWN DISOBEDIENCE!
I want nothing more than to protect you.
That’s what I’ve wanted for you from the day you were born.
I love you.
An example child replying says
PARENTS: I am a son of an overprotective mother. I do not mind the filtering, I have no desire to look at porn. I simply want to access the Internet in a safe and reasonable manner. There are various parental control programs out there that work well for this. Net Nanny is not one of them. It blocks everything, and I mean literally everything, no joke. I would like to be able to freely work on school, and play online games with my friend in my free time without some poorly and lazily developed program restricting my every move without me hacking it or keylogging the password. Please, then, consider uninstalling net nuisance and replacing it a more competent and reasonable program. Thank you.
