AutoPlay is a feature in Windows that allows specific actions to be performed when a media or device is being used such as when a CD or DVD is inserted into a drive. AutoPlay in Vista is very easy to customize to your own personal preference.
To disable AutoPlay in Vista go to “Start” and in the search field type in “autoplay” and press enter. The AutoPlay dialog box is where you can turn off AutoPlay or customize the settings for each specific media. But if you want to disable all autoplay then uncheck the box at the very top at “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices” and click “Save”. This will turn off autoplay for everything.
You can also pick and choose which program can open certain types of media or device by choosing one of the options from the drop down menu. For media that you are unsure of select “Ask me every time” this will give you different options to choose from when the media is opened.
