How to delete iPad Safari search history

“How do I delete my search history on the Safari iPad browser?”

It’s always a good idea to remove your search history so no else can see them. I’m not here to judge, only here to save you from the embarrassment.

So here’s how to delete search history on the iPad:

1. From the main screen go to “Settings”.

2. Tap on “Safari”.

3. One the right hand side scroll down a bit till you see the “Clear History, Clear Cookies and the Clear Cache” section.

4. Tap any of those three choices to delete it.

5. You will see a confirmation window pop up, hit “Clear” and say bye bye to those questionable searches.

    Thank you thank you THANK YOU! The iPad doesn’t come with an owners manual and it won’tdownload on my computer for some reason no matter WHAT link i click on in iTunes. So i set to learn as i go and u hit the question right on the head! Thank you to who answered this question! I am honestly greatful for it =]

    still shows up, if you type in a letter in the search bar,
    you’re searches still pop up!

    I didn’t have a pop-up window to clear – I have an ipad 1 does that matter – and bye the way my file seems to have cleared

    There is another way
    1. In ur safari there is ‘bookmark’ (an open book symbol) click it
    2. It popup a menu in that click history a second window slide in with ur history
    3. A ‘clear history’ button will be on the top right corner click it
    4. Two button shows up 1. Clear history 2. Cancel do what u want and there ur safari history is history…. This will not show in the search bar ….

    Does anyone else have the issue after you clear the history or search if you hit the back button in Safari it will still go through all the web sites you have visited?

    The above info on clearing your search history on an I Pad 2 does not work. You can clear your bookmarks and that does clear your book mark history. You can delete cookies and clear cookies under settings; but when you go to a new search and type in a letter; all prior searches appear. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks for any help.

    I have the same issue as Kenny (12/28/12). Does anyone know how to clear the search history? Right now, even after clearing history, etc., when I type a letter in the address bar, urls of all prior sites starting with that letter appear.

    If you want to clear the search history so that pages you have visited don’t appear in the search bar after typing the first few letters then this is different from clearing browsing history. The browsing history stores a list (by timeline) of the pages you have downloaded and this is easily cleared with the delete history button. The memory of the URL you have typed is stored in the auto complete or “auto fill” area of safari. I don’t have access to an iPad to test it but if you go to settings – Safari and toggle Auto Fill off and on again then I suspect this will clear it. In future you can set private browsing to “on” when using safari to browse a site where you don’t want to leave an audit trail.
