“I heard the new iPhone 5 has a new dock connector at the bottom, this is terrible news because I connect my iPhone to my home stereo, a boombox speaker and my car stereo. How do I connect a iPhone 5 to my older iPhone peripherals?”
The new iPhones and iPods (iPod touch and Nano) use the much narrower ‘Lightning’ dock connector, that means all those peripherals and cables you bought for the older iPhone/iPod will not connect directly to the new iPhone or iPod touch. However Apple does sell an adapter to connect the iPhone 5 to your older iPhone accessories, but not all of those accessories will work and there is no support for “video and iPod out”. You may need to buy new hardware to go with your fancy new iPhone.
