“How do I back up my photos from Flickr?”
Flickr is great for uploading you personal photos and its also kinda like a back up because it’s up on the Flickr servers and online. But what if something horrible happened and everything was lost, all your images and videos gone. I would never trust anything stored online especially if that’s the only copy you have in the world, you should always have more than one copy of anything to consider something “backed up”.
It’s always a good idea to back up all your Flickr photo so you have a copies on your local machine where you can then burn them to CD/DVD’s or put then on a external hard drive.
Flickr does not offer a backup solution on their website which is a big shame but third party companies fill the void by creating programs which do the job of backing up your pictures.
In order for these third party applications to work you will need to grant them access to your Flickr account. You can always deny them access later if you no longer want to use the program.
Flump will allow you to download all your public photos from your Flickr account. There are no options to pick and choose which photos to download, you you get them all. The simplicity of this program makes it very useful.
The backing up process is pretty simple, type in your Flickr account information, then select where you want to download the pictures and hit the “Start Flump” button.
FlickrEdit – is another Flickr backup tool that gives you the option of choosing what pictures or sets you want to download along with many other great features:
- Backup your Flickr Photos and Sets
- Backup Title, Description, Tags, and Copyright and store them into the IPTC header of the images.
- Upload new photos to Flickr (including asynchronous upload)
- Edit Photo and Set info, add comments to Photos and Sets
There you go, two really go options for backing up your Flickr account photos. One very simple one, and another one that gives you a bit more control and options for all you control freaks.
