How do I Make a Heart Symbol with my Keyboard

“How do people make those cool little heart symbols on their keyboards?”

To make a little heart with your keyboard enter ♥  you will see a cute little heart like this ♥.

Another way you can make a hearts symbol is by using the ALT key and your numeric keypad together, that’s the number keypads on the right hand side of your keyboard not the numbers on top of your keyboard. Press the ALT key and the number 3 key at the same time (ALT + 3) to get the same heart symbol. Let me try it right now, ♥. There it worked like a charm, much faster than the other method I showed above ♥ this is kinda fun ♥.

Some other fun ALT key symbols:

    If you are on a laptop with no numeric keypad you have to enable number lock. For me it was Fn key and NumLk at the same time (in blue). My numbers are on keys 7,8,9,u,i,o,j,k,l,m.

    Ok Mac Users…Here you go …an easy way to get symbols. Mac has made it much easier than a PC. One click after you set it up:
    SET UP: Go to System Preferences, click International, click Input Menu, click Character Palette, Close Preferences…At the top by the time an American Flag will appear. Click it, click Show Character Palette…That’s allllllll! Go MAC!

    for Laptops, press NumLock then you can do them shortcuts by pressing Letters on the keyboards with the accompanying numbers ♥

    For those you guys seem cant do it cuz if you are using a laptop, on the top you will see Num Lk, press that and then hold at the same time ALT and letter L cuz Letter L have a small number 3 😀 hope this will help you ♥♥

    You have to hold the Alt button on your keyboard to the left or right of your space bar. You hold down Alt, then press some numbers on either your Num Pad all the way to the right, or the numbers at the top of your key board.

    If you have a laptop like mine, then all you have to do is hold down the Fn button, and the Alt button, and then hit the key that has the little blue 3 in the corner; all at the same time. On mine, 3 is on a L, so all I do is hold Fn, Alt, and L.

    First, if you do have a laptop, on the left hand corner of your screen you might see something that says Fn
    So, you press Fn+Alt+L=♥
    It works perfectly =D

    It didn’t work at first until I figured out wat was wrong with the directions. Here’s the right way to do it.
    DIRECTIONS: HOLD the Alt BUTTON DOWN and then press the number 3 ONCE, push the number pad only DON’T HOLD DOWN, and then RELEASE the ALT BUTTON! Then there u go!

    Thank you and to all the others who DONT have the number pad on the right hand side because they are on laptops, DONT WORRY! IT STILL WORKS! I use the signs on my LAPTOP!!!
    Just press the Number Lock button then hold alt and press the letters with tiny numbers on! Mine is a VAIO laptop and I think it works on others!
    The letters for me with the numbers are:
    1 – J
    2 – K
    3 – L
    4 – U
    5 – I
    6 – O
    7 – 7 at the top
    8 – 8 at the top
    9 – 9 at the top
    0 – M

    if it doesnt work be sure that your num lock is on and dont use the numbers that are on the top of the letters it wont work then use the numeric keys its on the side of the keybord the ones that looks like a calculator..

    It worked on my laptop. I turned the number lock on with fn then number lock, then proceeded with alt + the little blue 3 that is on my ‘L’ key. It gave me a cute little heart on FB. Hope this helps.

    OH My GOD! Now it works. I’m using ACER laptop+Windows 7. First, you have to activate your NumLock by pressing Fn+F11 . And remember, the number pad on laptop usually on the same key of:
    1= j
    2= k
    3= l
    4= u
    5= i
    6= o
    7= 7
    8= 8
    9= 9
    0= 0
    So for me, its Fn+F11, and then pressing ALT+L

    On a Mac you need to go to edit and special characters …choose the ♥ and insert it.

    Make sure your numeric keypad isn’t locked! There may be the words, “Num Lock” on the key above the “1” on the keypad. If you can type numbers from the keypad it is not locked. If not, it is locked. No, I don’t think you are dumb. I’ve locked it unknowingly and wondered why I couldn’t type numbers! I had to figure out the number lock! ♥♥♥ Oh, on my keyboard, I hold ALT and then press and let go of the numeric pad “3” key and then let go of ALT. Then the ♥♥♥’s show up. It works with either ALT key. ♥ Good luck! ♥♥♥

    So many out there are asking how to make heart symbol (and the others) on their laptop that has no separate keypad. The answer is you need to also use that special “Fn” key in the sequence to produce the heart, which temporarily engages the keypad (overlay).
    Example, on a Toshiba laptop, the Fn key can be found in the lower left (or other places) between the left-control key and left-alt key. The shadow keypad digits can be found on the user-facing edge of the letters keys: [KP = keypad digit]
    M -> KP0, J -> KP1, K -> KP2, L -> KP3, U -> KP4,
    I -> KP5, O -> KP6, 7 -> KP7, 8 -> KP8, 9 -> KP 9
    The order is important! Hold down the Fn key, then add the Alt key, then tap the keypad digit you want to push: Fn + Alt + L
    The Fn access they KP3 that’s on the L key: ♥
    (the heart appears once you release the Alt key)
    If you want to put 3 hearts in a row, Hold down the Fn key, add Alt key, tap L, release Alt (keep holding Fn!) (the first heart appears), re-add Alt key, tap L, release Alt key (the second heart appears), re-add Alt key, tap L, release Alt key (the third heart appears), release Fn key: ♥♥♥
    Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy – non-keypad equipped laptop users can create hearts from their keyboard too!! 🙂

    One other note, (for a few of the symbols) it CAN be helpful to remember which Letter key to push by how the letter relates to the symbol produced:
    Smiley = Joy -> Fn + Alt + J -> ☺
    Heart = Love -> Fn + Alt + L -> ♥

    I think you have to have a numeric keypad…..not the numbers across the top of hte keyboard but an actual numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard ya know. Same thing happened when I learned to do accents for vowels and stuff in Spanish…but finally found it only works with the numeric keypad. Bummer- but if you have a laptop (like me) and use your wireless keyboard, it works.
