I have wireless G clients, but I’m struggling using a wireless G Netgear ADSL Router to get full coverage of an ‘L’ Shaped building.
I assume Wireless N routers have backward compatibility i.e connect to G clients (at reduced speed). BUT does a wireless ‘N’ Router in
connecting to a remote ‘G’ client have a greater range than ‘G’ router connecting to a ‘G’ client. I Only need am extra 10 meters or so.
A wireless N router may or may not increase the range for your wireless G clients. Even though wireless N routers are backwards compatible with previous standards it may not be better than what you already got.
Instead of running out and getting a new wireless N router I would try to increase the range of your existing set-up first.
Things you can try to improve your wireless G range:
Add a Wireless Repeater (wireless extender) – something like the Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain USB Wireless 300N Range Extender (White) can improve your signal and give you the extra range that you need and it works with most networks and access points. Read all the comments for the product and decide whether or not this would be right for your situation.
Here are some other things to try as well:
