If you recently purchased a brand new PSP or if you just purchased a new memory stick you will need to format the PSP memory stick in the PSP. When you format the psp memory stick it will allow the psp to function properly with the PSP. It will also give you all the proper folders to store all you media files and game save files.
I usually format every once in a while to have a nice clean uncluttered card, and just to remover all the old files and old saved games files from games I rented months ago and probably will never play again. Just remember when you format the PSP memory card everything will be erased. If you have files you would like to keep drag them onto your desktop first before formatting the memory card.
- From the main PSP menu navigate to ‘Settings’
- Go to ‘System Setting’ press ‘X’
- Scroll down to “Format Memory Stick”
- It will ask you “Do you want to format the memory stick” continue by presing ‘Yes’
- You now have a formatted memory stick, enjoy

Sure… I took out all the files from the memory card that had data in them… because all I wanted was to put a video on my PSP.
I took out and copied SAVEDATA and GAME onto my desktop because I thought that’s where MY SAVED GAME FILES WERE BEING SAVED.
Thank you… thank you SO VERY MUCH for not mentioning that ALL your data, even the saved game data you CANNOT access would be deleted.
Next time, tell your readers that they’ll have no chance to recover or even save their game data when reformatting because NO FOLDER ON YOUR PSP MEMORY CARD WILL HAVE IT.
Now I’m screwed. Screwed in so many ways. I was thiiiiis close to beating a game. THIS close. Now I can’t load the data because it… it… DOESN’T EXIST ANYMORE.
Thank you, Mr. Techie. Thank you SO very much.
