There are a few ways to search for files in Windows Vista. The first option is from the Start Menu, this is a pretty awesome search tool that was not available in XP. All you have to do is begin typing the name of the file in the “Start Search” field. As you type away it will begin to find files as you type along gradually narrowing down your search. You could also find and launch programs very quickly using this feature.
Another way to look for files is by going to “Start” then click on the “Search” button, a new window will appear. Begin searching for files in the upper right hand side in the search box. This search option will give you more control in the “Advanced Search” option. Find files by location, date, and files size.
