I just updated my wireless router and now want to daisy chain my old router as a repeater to expand my wireless range.
New router Linksys WRT600N
Old router Linksys WXR400
Can this be done?
Yes it is possible, check the user manual to see if any of your routers supports Wireless Distribution System (WDS) or “bridging”. I can give you rough idea on what to do but your manual will give you all the details for that specific model.
You can connect the second wireless router either by Ethernet or wireless. If you do it by Ethernet than you would connect it into the LAN ports on the main router. To do it wirelessly than your second router will need to be set to “client mode”. If your second router does not support “client mode” than you will need to use Ethernet to connect the two routers.
Now disable DHCP on the second router and reset or reassign an IP address to the second router.
Again your router manual will give you more information than I can so check with that.
