Is there a free Photoshop alternative out there I can use? I’ve used Photoshop and I love it for it’s powerful tools but I can’t afford it right now. Are there any programs out there that does the same things like Photoshop?
Gimp is completely free and just as powerful as Photoshop. It’s cross platform which means it works on just about any flavor of operating system. Anything you wanted to do in Photoshop you could probably do in Gimp.
You may get a bit confused with the Gimp interface like I did if your use to the Photoshop interface but they also have some excellent tutorials on the site to help get you started http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/.
I recommend the following for alternatives:
Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/) Surprisingly powerful and despite owning Photoshop Elements, I always touch up my pics in this.
GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) Probably the best known Open Source variant with lots of features and plugin capabilities. If you prefer the look and feel of PS, then check out the GIMPShop mod(http://www.gimpshop.com/).
