“One of my Facebook friend disappeared from my list but I didn’t remove them. Is it normal when friends disappear from your list?”
This isn’t a Facebook bug or anything and friends will not disappear off your list for no apparent reason.
There could be a couple of reasons why your “friend” is no longer on your list.
1. Your friend might have deleted you from their “Friends List” which would them remove them from yours. I know the truth hurts but accept it and move on.
2. The friend might have deactivated or deleted that Facebook which would remove them from any friends list they might be on. If that person every decides to enable the account again then he or she will return to any friends list they were on.

There is something going on with facebook that neither of your explanations account for. I have in the last several months had a handful of friends who asked me why I deleted them and I hadn’t. But there were no longer on my friend list.
I lost 60+ friends this week for no apparent reason. I lost 40+ on Tuesday night and 25 since last night. I asked some if they have deleted me and they all say no.
What is going on?

The same thing happened to me today. A friend sent me a note asking why I deleted them as a friend. I did not. Actually, I had wondered why I hadn’t heard from them in a few days. I re-added them. Still, how many others didn’t I realize? How many people think I am, for some reason, not willing to remain their friend?
Yesterday two friends, both of whom I added last week on the same day but do not know each other, vanished from my friend list and, as it appears, from Facebook entirely because I can’t find them anywhere. However, I find it very strange that both of them would have disappeared at the same time — there’s no reason they would have deleted me! Also, as one profile was in the process of disappearing, her name vanished from my friends list, but I could still see her profile and MYSELF listed as her friend. Then, with half an hour, her post on my wall and finally her entire profile was gone. What is going on?!? I don’t think she deactivated her profile…
Friends have been dropping off for months, and I just assumed they were de-friending — but lately I’ve had three of them ask me why we weren’t friends anymore. And today, I lost three more.
The significant thing is that these de-friendings occurred when I wasn’t active. I sometimes decide I’m sick of individuals’ posts when they post one-time-too-many, and I exit their friendship at that time. But these can happen when nothing’s been going on for quite some time.
Is Facebook becoming the Toyota of social networks, refusing to investigate a problem? Not only worries me, but concerns me, since god knows who is feeling left out of my loop.
The only defense I can see to this would be finding a way to print out your friend list so you’d know what happened. But privacy concerns might stop this.
Same thing has been happening to me. I noticed my numbers kept dropping; but figured a few friends had dropped me. Then one of my best friends sent me a text and asked if I had deleted him and said he couldn’t find me. I had NOT deleted him, but I can’t find him anywhere…even through his email. This sucks!!

I actually defriended someone this past week. Since then I’ve noticed I can no longer see his profile picture on any of the mutual friend’s sites. Is it because I blocked him or does it mean he blocked me? It would be unusual timing that the same week I chose to block him, he did likewise, especially because I usually deactivate my account every time I sign off. Any ideas??
Sorry, but this article is stupid… and it makes people think that their friends deleted them when they haven’t…facebook does have a bug…one of my really good friends disappeared and I can no longer see them in games for some reason. I know they haven’t deleted me because I have access to both my account and my friend’s and neither of us are deleted on each others’ accounts, but for some reason my friend doesn’t show up in any of the games anymore, although I show up in hers. Facebook is having problems, they should stop messing with the layout and stuff and just leave it the way it was. It wasn’t having problems before…
@Sasha: Blocking is mutual. If you block someone, he cannot see you anymore, but you cannot see him anymore either.
I can see my friend, but when I click on her name I cannot go to her page. Everything just goes blank. I can toggle to leave a comment but cannot go to her page/profile. What is up with this.

What sort of support and solution is that for a supposed “tech site.” Neither of your 5th grader responses are correct. I know its difficult accepting this fact but this problem does exist, there is a bug and if you don’t have a real solution don’t start a thread about it.
I can confirm this as well. I have one person who keeps disappearing, and we keep adding each other. She doesn’t know if any other friends have disappeared from her (I haven’t had anyone else disappear from what I know), but it appears to be just a problem between our profiles. She has however, experienced other malfunctions such as lost comments (OK, I have that too occasionally) and various things disappearing so there may be a connection. There are a type of Facebook viruses that can hide in your applications, but I don’t appear to have any such at the moment.
Just googled friends gone missing, hoping not find what i’ve just read above NO SOLUTION…. ALL my friends disappeared LAST NIGHT . Whilst i and one of my facebook friends was sat at the same comp she and i watched in amazment SHE WAS DELETED with us both checking my facebook page. She has now contacted our friends to let them undertand i have not done this deliberately. Reason she contacted people and not me, i’m refusing to contact any of my facebook friends online as i’m scared i may pass what i consider a VIRUS onto them….

I have the same problem as Carl-Oscar. I have one friend who keeps disappearing. I send him another request and all is well for about 24 hours, then “poof” he’s gone again. It’s getting kind of old for both of us to keep re-friending every day. The answers from TECH at the top of the page is nonsense!
I just lost all 722 of my friends,well, kind of. They are there and can see me but I can’t see any of them. All say we have a mututal friend in common….ME!!! I can’t add them back since they are still there. News feed is blank other than crappy advertisements (figures). Chat window has no friends online and that can’t be right. I emaild FB and got a generic response that asked for a screen shot (already had sent). I’ll let you know if I hear back but I’m not holding my breath.

Same happened to me. I am not using facebook that much, but I got three friends invite, and I added them.

I had a friend request from Brandie Click, who I didn’t know, but the picture looked like a young high school girl so thought it was probably a friend of my kids. I accepted and now don’t see this person on my friend list and have looked all over facebook and this person doesn’t exist. I looked immediately after accepting the request, so doubtful it had been deleted by then. I’m worried its a way to get all my information or something!!

Glad i’m not the only one. Every so often i’ve gone to go on someone’s profile and either can’t find them at all, or find them but they’re not my facebook friend anymore. I’ve been worried i’ve angered all these people and have been deleted but i don’t understand how i would have as when i’ve re-added the people they’ve accepted, so surely they didn’t delete me in the first place? I hope this is a facebook problem and will be sorted out.
This does NOT help at all! I have ONE friend who keeps dropping off my friend list and going to my blocked user list. I am not removing them, they are not removing me. We are having to send friend requests to each other sometimes MULTIPLE times daily! This is driving us insane and we have both changed our passwords multiple times, and all these does is slow the regularity of the issue occuring. Facebook do not even bother to respond to our repeated emails reporting the issue begging for their help.

One of my friends and myself recently decided to deactivate our facebook accounts. We both later re-activated our accounts and I noticed that his name is showing on my Friend List, but I am not showing up on HIS Friends list…. Does that mean that he delete me as his “Friend” when he reactivated his account?

Happened to me. One friend disappeared. Searched for her and her name and picture showed up. When I went back I could no longer find her. She sent me a birthday comment to day, I read it, and now it has disappeared. All the birthday messages from other people are still there. I think something in the Matrix has changed!
I mistakenly created a new fb page with a different email address. When I noticed it, it had 3 friends already added to it as opposed to the 25 friends from my “real” site. I was very careful in deleting the wrong site (srknop@gmail.com) and made sure that my “real” site ws still there after deleting my second, incorrect site. However, NOW my REAL fb page has only 3 friends instead of the 25 that I am expecting. I continue to get wall posting from those friends that are missing, but I have no way of contacting them, otther than starting to add them from scratch. Is there a way to get the 25 friends back? It feels as if a mistake occured when deleting the fb page I created by accident. I can find no other explanation. PLEASE HELP.

I can also confirm this. In May-June of 2010, I was notified by 2 close friends who noticed they could no longer access my page, i.e., “we were not ‘friends’.” Unfortunately, one was a sister-in-law who now refuses to speak to me altogether.
I looked at my profile and noticed my friend’s list dropped to 350. A few minutes later, I came back to my profile and noticed I had 351. I had not accepted requests from other people, nor did I have anyone accept a friend request I had sent out. I’ve had this happen a couple times before hand too. Facebook is wayyyy over rated.

Yes, this is very strange. I’ve probably lost around 50. Maybe I did lose some legitimately by them defriending me, but some of the people I see that are not my friend any more makes no sense at all. This makes it so awkward when the person is just an acquaintance. For example, I have a girl at work who I was kind of interested in but never really talked to her. I was no longer her friend on FB after just being friends on there for a few months. It’s weird cause we still say hi and are cordial towards one another. I don’t think she deleted me nor do I think she knows that I’m no longer friends with her on there.
I actually got conformation by a childhood friend for 25 years that this is indeed some sort of bug going on. We had written on each others wall discussing something and then a week later, he was no longer my FB friend. He had not deleted his account and it seemed like he got offended when I asked him if he could have mistakenly defriended me. In hindsight, I feel pretty stupid even asking him that.
This is a big problem for FB and I think the “official” answer to this question, up top, is utter garbage. I have about 400 friends so I don’t have the time or even the memory to be able to see who exactly is falling off my friends list. Major fail on FB’s part.
Yes this is real. I have lost some friends over the years. Some I have assumed deleted me so no biggie. Screw em, right? Well there are some people who I know for fact wouldn’t drop me. My wife keeps disappearing from my list as well…..Extremely annoying….she’s not doing it.
The latest was that after disappearing again, she actually sent me a request, I accepted, was her friend and within 5 minutes, couldn’t view her page. I got a message to “Add as friend”. Why it it suddenly some of my Friend’s photos have stopped appearing on the left hand side of my FB page but if I click on the pencil thing on the left to show all Friends, they they appear?
I’m relieved to see other people here with the same problem. And annoyed at FB to no end. Now I don’t know whether to confront the girl I’ve been seeing for the past few months to ask if she’d deleted me for no reason – or just stay cool and wait for the bug to correct itself, but then risk HER thinking that I did the deleting. I’m having the same problem too. This has been going on now for awhile, Everytime I gain 2 or 3 friends, the next day when I log on to my account I see that I’ve lost 1 or 2 more friends. Their profile pictures are gone and are replaced with a default blank pic. When I try to click on their profile I get a messages that says page not found. very frustrating. It’s getting worse by the day.
I lost forty friends like in just two minutes! THIS IS A BUG -Facebook- anty up and stop making excuses…use all your huge profits and brain power and fix the problem. This is nonsense saying it’s not a bug. A friend of mine has vannished from facebook. Like if I search her name she’s not there atall. Yet she keeps emailing me asking why I never talk to her on FB lol. The problem seems intermittant, sometimes she’s there and on friends. Sometimes she’s just there but not on friends. Sometimes she’s not even in the search. Hoasim’s problem seems to match.
It’s quite obvious facebook has some odd limited bug system. I have added more than 10 new people within past week BUT my friendslist number keeps decreasing. I just by random discovered that a friend of mine suddenly has went into ‘non friend’ yet the subscription remained 100% (I saw a post by her on my Home wall, didn’t comment, went back to her profile to comment but couldn’t). And she said she hasn’t deleted me. Does fb have something against people adding friends or do they have some odd limitation? Srsly!

Quite a few friends have disappeared over the years and I let it go but I was quite surprised with two people I get on very well with. When I sent a request back, they readily accepted again. If they didnt want to be my friend, why would they accept my friend request so quickly? So that thing about the truth hurting, the truth is in the comments of these honest Facebookers, askabouttech. And you probably are hurting which is why you havent replied to any of these commenters. Idiot.
Many of my friends repeatedly disappear (including my wife and my best friend), sometimes several times in the same day. These people’s accounts are active, they have not deleted me, and I have changed my password repeatedly. This answer is pretty much a copy of the answer provided on Facebook’s help page and I don’t accept either one.
This is only happening with one person, and it’s the same one every time. But they seem to reappear within a few minutes? O.o But it still is annoying because every time I think, “Ahhh did they block me? D:” So yeah… Facebook, fix the bug. >.< OR WE'LL JOIN A DIFFERENT SOCIAL NETWORK!

This is so stupid, i deactivated my account for two days, and when i reactivate it my girlfriend disappeared from my friends as if i blocked her or as if she blocked me. But i talked to her and she never blocked me. wtf is going on facebook fix this!
Yeah…whoever made this initial post needs to stop trying to be rude or sarcastic. There actually is a bug on Facebook that causes a profile to “block” you temporarily. Profiles sometimes appear blocked for no apparent reason, and then come back a day later. I’ve had this happen with literally no rhyme or reason to it, and it’s actually really disturbing if you don’t realize what’s going on.
Basically, unless the individual involved is someone who you don’t really know, you probably need to chill if someone’s profile just disappears. You’re more likely than not to know it if you’ve done something that would cause someone to block you. Facebook is one of the largest sites on the internet (probably the largest), and they apparently get the wrong wires crossed sometimes and make it look like you’ve been blocked. Annoying? Yes. Inevitable? Probably.
Actually, having looked back at Facebook, I do not think that this is what happened. I was incorrect. I believe what may have happens may sometimes be deactivation and then reactivation, whether intentional or not. Sorry.

I had something like this happen to me, but all of the person in questions comments on photos and whatnot have vanished, not even leaving the “facebook user” that gets used when people delete accounts…

Bad article on a tech website. There is a common bugs about friends disappearing and reappearing. I have a RL friend that disappeared we put our laptops side by side to see what was wrong, we didn’t block eachother or anything. We reappeared to each other after a few weeks without changing anything.
I have a friend to went to France for a year for school. All of a sudden his profile is gone and whenever I search for his name it comes up with 0 results. Oliver Horjus is not that uncommon a name and this has only happened to me so he couldn’t have deactivated his account. Help?

A friend of mine sat in the same room as me logged into her Facebook and showed me her profile on her phone, and I logged into my Facebook and when we search for each other we do not exist, but my Girlfriend can see both our pages and add us both, and if I log-out and search for her exact page address, as in “Facebook.com/firstname.lastname.number” I can see her profile, but when I log-in it comes up with a “Page Not Found” error message that my Girlfriend doesn’t get when she does the same thing…so it IS a bug, and people DO vanish off your friends list for no apparant reason…but the worst bit is you can’t contact Facebook to report this as there’s no option to report this as a bug.

Same happened to me NOW,couple of hours ago and i was shocked- all of them suddenly disappeared and i can’t see them- when i’m searching them in Search bar i see them and there is written “Add Friend” but in their friend list i am already,what is wrong?
After I originally left a comment I seem to have clicked
on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox
and now each time a comment is added I receive four emails with the
exact same comment. There has to be a way you can remove
me from that service? Cheers!
NOT true on most of this! my friend is gone on my page but not a another friends THEY ARE STILL ON FB! DUH
My mum had this problem, turns out her friend accidentally deleted her when pruning her list. Doing this resulted in facebook automatically blocking her (possibly a bug?). They couldn’t find each other on their friend list or through the search.
Solution:
1) Click on the gear symbol (top right corner, what you click to log out)
2) on the drop down menu click privacy settings.
3) On the left of the page click blocking (red circle symbol)
4) under block users there may be a list of names of the people blocked. Click the unblock next to the name.
Note: both users will have to check this because it only takes one to block and cause this problem.
This worked for my mum, i’m not sure if you have to send another friend request or anything. Hope this helps people 🙂
one of my friends whom I didn’t delete or block or wasn’t blocked or deleted by this person. she asked me if I was still on fb because she couldn’t find my name on fb. her name is toni lunardini . we work at the same place walmart on e 29th st in Muncie,in 47302. since neighter of us was trying to delete the oth we can’t figure out why why we can’t communicate on fb. to my knowledge eith of us has broken any rule made by fb. would appreciate a solution to this issue asap. I really enjoy my fb and talking to all my fb friends’ thank you for your time
my friend and I have lost each other on Facebook,and we did not unfriend each other or do anything else to lose each other,how do we get each other back,I have tried everything,I did find her,but when I clicked on it it says that page is not found.Answer to this puzzle please!

I have lost all my friend list except for one. This happened initially on the Ipad ans now on rhe iphone. It must be a bug! This hapens aftwr receiving a mag sayong that may session has expired. Any hints?
I just had a friend disappear in the middle of a conversation. Yahoo needs to fix this.
I have a friend who passed away last year. I did not delete him off of my FB friends list. As of today, I noticed he is no longer on my list. So, I went to his still active FB acct. and I can see that I am still listed as his friend.
Since he is dead, it’s obvious he did not delete me, no one is posting on his page, on his behalf either. It remains as he left it..
Can someone Please explain why he is no longer on my friends list, yet I remain on his?

lost 18 friends at the same time and was told by them that either them or friends had the same thing happened and face book said it would take care of it and never did.
yes this is bs fb pp, I discovered a fb friend disappeared who friended ME when the post he had in the group discussion was deleted as they often are when things get unwieldy. I know this because his post and all our comments are likewise gone from my activity log.
everyday i lost 8 friends from my Facebook account.When i asked someone what is the reason to remove me. they replied they don”t know about removing!!!!!!
