You know what I hate? Discord DMs from bots scammers and weirdos. In this guide I’ll be going through the steps on how to turn off Discord’s direct message.
By default Discord’s direct message is turned on when you join a new server. I think this is a mistake on Discord’s part. For safety reasons it should be off by default.
How to Disable Discord Direct Message (Desktop Version):
When Discord is open click on ‘User Settings’ located in the lower left corner of the screen next to your Discord user name.
In User Settings, click on ‘Privacy & Safety’ in the left menu column.
Under Privacy & Safety, go down ‘Server Privacy Defaults’. By default this option is turned on, click on the green check mark to toggle it off.
A small window will appear, this option will allow you to turn off direct messaging all all servers if you choose ‘Yes’. You can also go to each server and do this individually the choice is yours.
Disabling Direct Messages on Discord Mobile app:
- With the app open, go to the bottom right corner and click on your user icon picture.
- Now follow the same steps as above.
That is it. No more annoying Discord DMs from strangers, bots or scammers.
