There are a few different options for running Windows on a Intel Mac. The first one is called Boot Camp which comes with the Mac’s operating system, Leopard. Boot Camp allows you to run Windows natively on the machine which basically means it’s running Windows as if it was a PC. In some tests Windows even runs faster on a Mac with Boot Camp than on a regular PC. The only downside to this is you will need to reboot the computer when switching between the two operating systems.
Then there’s virtualization, this allows you to run both Windows and the Mac OS X at the same time, this means you can run both Windows applications and Mac applications side by side, that’s pretty awesome. There are currently two companies that do virtualization for the Mac, Parallels Desktop, and VMware Fusion. VMware Fusion costs about 80 dollars, and Parallels Desktop is priced at 80 dollars also.
So what’s the best way to run Windows on a Mac? If you want to know which program will give you the most performance when running Windows than check out MACTECH, they did some benchmarking on all three programs.
