Most of us have a broad collection of music on CDs. The only problem is that CDs are high-maintenance. Luckily, the iPod made music portable. Copying your CDs to your iPod allows you to literally carry your entire collection with you. Now, there are several ways to copy them. Some are more complicated than others. Below, I’m going to explain the simplest method to copy CD’s to the iPod. Here are the steps you’ll need to take to copy your CDs to your iPod…
Step #1: Download iTunes
If you haven’t done so already, visit Apple’s website (http://apple.com) and download the latest version of iTunes. It’s a powerful software application that’s equipped with a number of features. Once you’ve downloaded, install it.
Step #2: Insert Your CD
Place your CD into your computer’s CD-drive. Close the drive and wait a few moments. Your computer will automatically recognize your CD and display a box with several options. One of those options will be labeled “Import songs using iTunes.” Select it and click “OK.”
Step #3: Import Your CD Into iTunes
After you’ve clicked “OK,” your computer will automatically launch the iTunes software. It should also start the import process. While importing the songs from your CD to iTunes, they’ll be converted into a format that iTunes can read. One quick note: on some computers, iTunes doesn’t automatically begin importing the songs. If that happens, hit the “Import CD” button within iTunes. If your computer is relatively new, it will only take a few minutes for iTunes to import the entire contents of your CD.
Step #4: Moving The Contents To Your iPod
By this step, you’ve imported all of your CD’s songs into the iTunes software. They should be contained within the same library in iTunes. You can change the library, assign new folders and add information to your songs before transferring them to your iPod. Once you’re ready, sync your iPod with iTunes. It’s as easy as connecting your iPod to your computer via a USB cable.
Apple has designed iTunes to automatically update your iPod with new music that you’ve added to the software’s library. Once you’ve established the connection between your iPod and your computer, iTunes will begin transferring the songs directly to your iPod.
Time To Take Your Music With You
Before Apple released its iTunes software, a lot of iPod owners took it upon themselves to devise creative ways to copy their CDs to their iPods. While the procedures were inspired, they were usually complicated and often, problematic. Fortunately, iTunes has largely eliminated the need for those methods. When you’re ready to copy your music from your CD collection onto your iPod, follow the simple steps above. You may be surprised by how easy it is.
