Like many trying to economize these days, I’d like to download free audio-books from my local library. Trouble is, they aren’t compatible with my iPod. Can you tell me if there’s a program I can use that will transfer these WMA files to compatible IPod format–and hopefully keep the chapter markings? Oh, and free or very inexpensive is the best!
Unfortunately WMA (Windows Media Audio) is not compatible with iPods. In order to get those audio-books playable on the iPod we need to convert those WMA audio-books into MP3. Once those WMA files have been converted into mp3 your iPod will be able to play them back.
Here are some free (except for the last one) WMA to MP3 converters to try:
MediaMonkey – this program is more like a Music Manager but you can use this to convert those WMA files.
Replay Converter – you want some commercial type program and don’t mind spending 30 bucks then check out Replay Converter. Here’s a look on how it converts audio files http://applian.com/replay-converter/support/user_guide3.php#audio
.
I really like this site for free audio-books http://librivox.org/.
